Job Description

Technical Director (Game Development)Location: SheffieldSalary: £60,000 - £90,000 p.a (DOE)Permanent, Full-time.Our client, an independent AAA games development house based in Sheffield, is expanding rapidly and we are keen to talk to experienced Technical Directors. With the studio entering a key phase of expansion, we are looking for an experienced Technical Director to be a key part of the senior leadership team.You will be joining a fast-growing, dynamic games studio to work with cutting-edge technology and exciting new games for PS4 and PS5, Xbox One, Series X and PC.Although they pride themselves on their technical excellence, they are a creative bunch, actively generating ideas and bringing together their collective skills, experiences, and storytelling to their innovative creative process.Your Responsibilities:Problem Solving:* Proactively set processes and develop a technical environment which ensures timely identification of problems and tracking them through to resolution.* Understands the engineering teams strengths and weaknesses to enable the best targeting and allocation of resources.* Uses development learnings and experience to mitigate or avoid problems.Risk Management:* Anticipates risk and dependencies across product development and develops plans to mitigate issues.* Own and manage technical risks associated with the development, while formulating technical strategies to mitigate these risks.* Recommends team and infrastructure requirements to mitigate the impact of risks or dependencies.* Regularly collaborates with engineering and the wider team to manage risks and dependencies.Managing Teams:* Communication of technical standards and practices across the team, ensuring that these are being adhered to.* Ensure that there are robust onboarding plans for new team members to help familiarise them with project processes and standards.* Identify technical training requirements for the team.* Build team relationships based on respect, trust and integrity.* Recruit and hire talent that is both technically capable and exhibits company values.* Actively create a culture of ownership.* Uses leadership experience to motivate the team.* Creates a team environment which fosters healthy discussion.* Manages conflict, proactively working with affected individuals to resolve issues.* Mentor, coach and develop team membersManaging Partners:* Identifies suitable development partners, assisting in carrying out due diligence as and when necessary.* Collaborates with external development partners to ensure technical requirements are defined, delivered and approved in line with agreed timescales and quality targets.* Acts as technical point of contact for external development partners.* At all times represent the company positively to partners.About you:* Software development experience in the Games Development industry with at least two shipped titles.* Proven technical leadership capabilities.* Strong organisational and prioritisation skills.* Able to effectively balance project, team, technical and business requirements.* Experience in developing and growing software engineering talent.* Able to challenge and adapt to change.* A thirst for technical expertise and innovation.Other Benefits:* Flexible working hours.* Plenty of social events.* Parking.* My client is open to salary negotiation based on your requirements.We are looking for an individual who can help grow my clients company and be part of a vibrant, energetic office.
