Musculoskeletal Trauma and Orthopaedics:

  • Huntsman 6 and 7 Trauma and orthopaedic wards
  • Huntsman 2 Hip Fracture Ward
  • P2 at Royal Hallamshire - Planned orthopaedic surgery wards

We can offer you development opportunities in specialist surgical nursing skills as well as caring for acute medical patientsBy hosting the Major Trauma Service we offer development opportunities in this specialised field including the extended skills and training so that you are confident to care for this specialist patient group alongside the multi professional team.The care group can offer rotational posts across our planned and emergency wards to further broaden your experience and skills to develop your career pathwayHuntsman 2 – Hip Fracture WardCombining the skills of both Surgical and General/Elderly Medicine, the dedicated multi professional team deliver compassionate care based on best practice in this exciting and challenging field for about 600 patients a year.You will be joining a team at the Northern General Hospital where you will experience a huge variety of challenges which will equip you with broad skills to confidently embark on any career pathway.A love of the elderly is central to enable you to develop skills in management of complex patients with multiple medical co-morbidities. Dementia, acute delirium, complex rehab and discharge planning and enabling patients the best opportunity to return to home through skilled care and support is the reward for working hereWhether using the wide range of skills Vickers 4 will furnish you with tools to form the basis of your career. Or like most nurses on Vickers 4 you will choose to remain in an area you will be proud to call ‘your ward’Ward P2 at Royal Hallamshire Our Elective wards provide care for patients who have planned surgery such as hip and knee replacements or specialist surgery of various joints and spinal surgery. As a regional centre we undertake complex surgery which necessitates varied nursing care requirements.Sheffield Hand CentreThe Sheffield Hand Centre at the Northern General Hospital is purpose designed unit dedicated to providing excellence in health care for patients with hand trauma/ hand conditions, Combining orthopaedic and plastic surgical expertise, bringingtogether the necessary skills to manage all aspects of hand disorders and injuries. We provide care for all aspects of hand surgery from the initial consultation to completed rehabilitation and return to work.The Sheffield Hand Centre fits the ideal model of a fully integrated orthopaedic surgery/plastic surgery hand unit, of which there are only 5 or so such units in the UK.The wards are an excellent experience to develop surgical nursing skills in a supported environment, working alongside an experienced nursing and multi professional team.Rotational posts across the care group to broaden your orthopaedic and staff nurse knowledge and experience are offered, preparing you for your future in elective orthopaedic surgery or the specialty of your choice.****************************************************************************For those who are currently employed by the Trust as a Staff Nurse, you should instead apply through the Staff Nurse Transfer process via your line manager.If you are a Newly Qualified applicant and are due to qualify before July 2021, you can apply via this advert.
