Job Description

Senior Project EngineerNorthern England & Scotland£50,000 – 60,000 + £6,000 Car Allowance + 10% Pension + 15% Incentive SchemeThe CompanyOur client is one of the worlds leading providers of building materials with customers in the infrastructure and construction marketplaces. The company is part of a group with operations across over 70 countries, tens of thousands of employees and a multi-billion pound turnover.The UK business employs nearly 4000 in its own right and has hundreds of sites throughout the UK of various sizes all processing materials and all containing processing equipment from stand alone pieces of machinery through to full turnkey installed process lines.The business has circa 60 sites in the North of England and Scotland and are currently looking for a Senior Project Engineer who will be responsible the mechanical expert as part of the team that identifies and then organises new equipment and upgrade projects for equipment across the sites in your region.This is a fantastic opportunity to join a world leader with a diverse and autonomous role which is accompanied by an excellent salary and benefits package. The business is keen to support someone towards Chartered status in the role if you do not already hold this accreditation.The RoleThe Senior Project Engineers key focus will be as the mechanical expert as part of the internal business improvements team. The company annually reviews where they need to invest in new processing equipment across their sites and as part of this team you will:

  • Support in identifying the equipment required for the project in question.
  • Specify the machinery required to sub-contract machinery manufacturers (conveyors, crushing equipment, screening equipment etc)
  • Tender with several suppliers of equipment to ensure value for money.
  • Identify suppliers best fit for purpose for the project
  • Identify the key risks in the scope of the project and mitigate for these.
  • Liaise with civil and structural sub-contractors for any groundworks or building works that will be required on the project
  • There will circa 10-15 projects in your region at any one time and you will be reviewing progress on projects and problem solving around any issues as the projects come together.
  • Feeding back to the relevant Project Manager on key issues as the Project Manager holds the commercial accountability for the project.
  • The other key parts of the role will be to:
  • Problem solve for root cause issues with repeat mechanical process equipment failures at your sites. You will look to identify the root cause problem and what corrective actions the business needs to take to resolve the issue
  • Carrying out structural assessments on a periodic basis for the buildings in your region and feeding back to the business on any issues that need addressing.
  • The role is a very autonomous position where you will be covering sites across a large region from the North West of England up to Central Scotland. With the travelling required in the position you can expect to stay away from home one to two nights per week.The CandidateTo be successful in your application for this Senior Project Engineer role you will need:
  • A HNC or above in mechanical engineering or equivalent
  • Experience in running engineering equipment or machinery related projects.
  • To enjoy working autonomously
  • To be able to influence others.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • With a large density of sites in the North West region of England the client ideally wants someone based in this area.
