Penguin Recruitment is pleased to be working with a national Planning Consultancy on the hire of a Senior Planner to their Sheffield Office.The position will sit inside of our clients Strategic Planning Research Unit (SPRU), and therefore interested candidates should hold experience of undertaking independent research and the presentation of this at inquiry and local plan examinations.The role is wide-ranging as the team is based around an ethos of research and problem solving for clients. The SPRU team frequently provides inputs across the companys most complex and/or larger projects, including major urban extensions, large scale commercial developments and new settlements and acting for/providing advice to public sector clients on the same.This can include making the strategic case for development plan allocations or significant application proposals and identifying the needs of specific groups such as older persons housing.As well as working for private sector clients, the SPRU team also supports local planning authorities and LEPs in preparing detailed evidence base studies on matters relating to housing, employment and Green Belt, to support strategic and local plan preparation.The role would be ideal for those with a background in evidence base preparation and site promotion. The ability to take a wider view of the requirements for delivery of successful schemes (e.g., infrastructure provision, deliverability and sustainability appraisal) and successful local plan implementation is essential, and detailed knowledge of these specific areas of policy and guidance would be beneficial. You will, for example, support the team in particular in producing economic strategies, employment land reviews as well as housing and employment land availability assessments, age/population assessments and health impact assessments.The candidate will assist the growing SPRU team providing advice and guidance to all our clients offices and clients across the country.
