Job Description

Are you a Purchasing specialist with stores and stock management experience who would be interested in the opportunity to work for a business who have been a Sheffield staple of manufacturing since the mid-1800s This is an exciting chance to join this historic business at a crucial point in their journey of growth and process improvement. With a highly commercial new COO, an equally visionary CEO, and a dynamic, tech-savvy Supply Chain Manager now on board, the company has already seen significant improvements in just the last 3 months having introduced modern, lean methodology as well as investingheavily in CAPEX, with more to come. They are seeking a driven, experienced Purchasing and Stores Buyer to join their team and help drive the procurement, stock and systems management to new heights.Position Overview:As the Purchasing and Stores Buyer you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the efficient procurement of raw and pre-assembled materials, while also overseeing stock management.This position requires a combination of strategic and operational purchasing expertise and systems management skills to streamline the supply chain and support the manufacturing and Warehouse operations.You will be responsible for all purchasing activities for the UK and US sites and be instrumental in improving material flow and store management.Core areas of responsibility:

  • To be a strong support to the Supply Chain Manager in ensuring the accurate and timely purchasing of raw material and pre-fabricated goods for UK and US sites
  • To improve and introduce standard processes and procedures for the warehouse, giving a clear understanding of minimum and maximum stock levels and working with the SCM to aid in the MRP systems improvement project
  • Take a strategic approach to supplier relationships, performing a full cost analysis and renegotiating contracts where possible with the aim to save costs wherever possible
  • Introduce SLA’s & KPI’s (for purchasing, sales and suppliers)
  • Analysing supplier and customer data, highlighting risks and reporting to relevant stakeholders
  • Gather, analyse and interpret core data to enable sales teams to provide accurate lead times and service levels to customer base
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships across the different businesses to ensure full buy-in to the purchasing strategy and targets
Stock management:
  • Develop and implement stock management strategies to optimize inventory levels
  • Conduct regular stock audits, monitor stock turnover rates, and minimize carrying costs
  • Ensure the availability of critical materials to support production schedules
Supply Chain Optimisation:
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to forecast demand and ensure timely delivery of materials to meet production requirements
  • Continuously assess and improve the efficiency and effectiveness of supply chain processes
  • Implement inventory management practices to minimize excess or obsolete stock
Capabilities required
  • Experience in a multi-site Manufacturing environment, managing the MRP for multiple warehouses
  • 3+ years of proven experience in Buyer or Senior Buyer positions, dealing with bulk ordering of matierals and stock management
  • Advanced Excel and MRP ability is essential – pivot tables, V-Lookups, Formulas, coding etc
  • Be confident in using manual systems
  • Excellent negotiation and communication skills
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret data and draw meaningful insights
