Job Description

This Vacancy An opportunity has arisen for a Scientific Programme Manager, Deputy Scheme Manager UK National External Quality Assessment Scheme for Blood Coagulation (UK NEQAS BC) to join UK NEQAS BC, Directorate of Laboratory Medicine, Royal Hallamshire Hospital, Sheffield’UK.UK NEQAS BC has gained international recognition as a leading provider of comprehensive external quality assessment (EQA) programmes in the field of haemostasis and thrombosis. Additionally, UK NEQAS BC works with the World Federation of Hemophilia (WFH) to provide the WFH International EQA programme.The post holder will:Take a lead role in the design, construction and analysis of surveys and participant questionnaires.Deputise for the UK NEQAS BC Manager in all aspects of management of UK NEQAS BC.Take a lead role in troubleshooting for scientific and clinical staff in UK and non-UK laboratories recording results outside performance limits and providing expert opinion, data analysis, and specialist advice on the clinical implications of laboratory results and performance.Design and instigate in-house scientific investigations as appropriate to elucidate assay performance, diagnostic errors, method discrepancies in liaison, where appropriate, with commercial diagnostic manufacturers and experts from other institutions.Prepare and report scientific data and investigations by publication in leading scientific journals and in presentations at national and international meetings.Represent UK NEQAS BC as a speaker at national and international meetings, on steering groups/scientific advisory panels as applicable, and as a lecturer on undergraduate/postgraduate courses and training workshops as required.About UsUK NEQAS BC is a provider of EQA services for haemostasis and thrombosis (blood coagulation) tests. The programme has been in operation for more than 40 years, with a Point of Care Testing (POCT) division established for more than 20 years. UK NEQAS BC is an internationally recognised and highly regarded organisation, providing EQA services and support to more than 1100 laboratories in 33 different countriesWe also provide EQA in POCT programmes to over 5000 participating centres in primary and secondary care.In addition, UK NEQAS BC provides an advisory service to participants and educational activities that include annual scientific meetings for more than 350 delegates together with peer reviewed publications. Online data collection and reporting is carried out through our website, partly through a third party and partly through locally developed programming. Currently our data management system is undergoing major redevelopment by a software provider to bespoke specifications.Who we are looking forApplicants to this post should possess an HCPC registration as a Biomedical or Clinical Scientist, have a higher degree, and have advanced theoretical knowledge/ extensive experience of haemostasis sufficient to act as an expert in the field. Evidence of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) is required along with experience with Laboratory Information Systems and knowledge of Microsoft Office.Good leadership, management, supervisory skills and influencing skills are essential and also the ability to be flexible and a good communicator.Applicants must be able to demonstrate ability to deliver lectures and training, and also have the ability to liaise and collaborate with other scientific groups, including other UK NEQAS organisations.
