Job Description

Adept Resourcing Engineering is delighted to announce its exclusive partnership with Sheffield Forgemasters as the companys retained partner in the recruitment of a Programme Director - Business Transformation.This pivotal primary executive role is instrumental in driving the remarkable changes that the business is undergoing following its acquisition by the Ministry of Defence in 2021. With a substantial initial trache of £400 million investment in place, includingthe installation of a new 13,000-tonne press and multi-million pound flood defences, Sheffield Forgemasters is poised for a transformative journey.Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer the Programme Director will drive the delivery of the capital investment transformation programme to ensure the programme meets the safety, schedule, cost and business capacity requirements. Ensuring a seamless integrationwith existing production commitments. This role will be an Executive Team Member, a key contributor to the Board Recapitalisation Committee and the primary interface with the Shareholder UKGI for the Recapitalisation Programme.The main duties:

  • Direct & integrate the activities across the Recapitalisation programme to ensure they are effective, cohesive and consistent in supporting SFEL’s mission, goals and strategic plan including;
  • Supply chain/procurement & commercial activities
  • Manufacturing transformation (business requirements specification, people, work environment/culture, process, digital systems, production readiness)
  • New building programme (design, build, install, commission - Safety, NEC, RIBA, Project Managers Engineering, Project Control (Schedule & Cost)
  • Establish and lead the programme governance framework of accountability and authority to define and control the outputs, outcomes and benefits of the programme.
  • Establish and manage the programme baselines (cost, schedule and risk & opportunities), ensuring appropriate contingency is in place and scope change is effectively documented and managed.
  • Ensure issues that may adversely impact the Programme are identified, documented and resolved as early as possible.
  • Monitor overall programme performance (in terms of cost, schedule, safety and quality) and implement corrective action as required.
  • Proactively lead identifying and implementing opportunities and mitigations which support the realisation of programme requirements within target schedule and budget.
  • Establish an effective Programme Office to ensure inter-related projects are effectively joined up and logically sequenced and the Programme provides a mechanism for change integration across the Company.
  • Ensure effective mechanisms are in place for integration with the wider Operations and Business teams for seamless business continuity during the programme.
  • Develop and deliver succinct and timely programme reports which highlight safety, quality, cost and schedule performance, risks/opportunities and issues.
  • Manage Programme costs to maximize cost efficiency and earned value, ensure accurate forecasting of future costs in terms of BCWP (earned value) and Estimate at Completion (EAC), and ensure effective trend and change management across the portfolio.
  • Establish a robust supply chain and commercial programme of work that delivers Value for Money, including, partnering with major suppliers to ensure effective planning, co-operation and delivery.
  • Ensuring a Programme staffing plan is prepared and resourced in line with the agreed programme needs.
  • Lead a large, diverse team of professional, technical and support staff, both directly and through the management structure, including recruitment, retention and performance management, drawing on HR support as required.
  • Build a high performing and collaborative teamworking environment across the programme team and its partners, Operations, and the wider SFEL business.
  • Ensure legal compliance and health and safety standards are effective to provide a safe and healthy workplace during the recapitalisation programme of work.
  • Lead the development and execution of effective stakeholder management strategies for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Lead effective communication and integration across the business including internal and external communication on the Programme.
Successful candidate requirements:
  • Degree or equivalent in Manufacturing/Engineering.
  • Proven leadership capability - able to inspire and motivate a diverse team.
  • Good supply chain and commercial awareness.
  • Stakeholder management, influencing, and communication skills (including Internal stakeholders, Board, Customers, UKGI, Partners, and Suppliers).
  • Able to integrate cross-functionally and synthesize complexity to provide clear direction.
  • Knowledge of civil program contract requirements (NEC, RIBA).
  • Able to build a robust risk management structure with effective project controls.
  • Can drive for results without compromise to safety or quality.
