THE ROLEThe Future Fund was established to support the UKs innovative businesses affected by Covid-19. These businesses were unable to access other government business support programmes, such as CBILS, because they were either pre-revenue or pre-profit and typicallyrely on equity investment. The Future Fund, now closed to new applications, provided 1190 eligible companies with convertible loans, on the condition that private investors at least match the governments commitment. The convertible loans are designed to convertinto equity at the next qualifying equity funding round.As a Manager - Risk & Control, you will act as the first line of defence (1LoD) for the team, identifying and managing non-financial risks. You will lead several key areas across the department by initiating enquiries, managing the horizon scanning procedureto identify upcoming risks whilst also delivering the solution to issues around risk and control. Working with various of internal and external stakeholders, you will investigate a range of risk incidents around the Future Fund portfolio, including but notlimited to money laundering, countering terrorist financing, market abuse, bribery, and fraud. This will see you working closely with first line support teams to tackle emerging risks at an early stage whilst also coordinating remedial actions for more complexissues at a second line level. Representing theFuture Fund team, you will act as a Risk Champion and central point of contact co-ordinating all risk management activities. You will continuously develop the risk framework specific to the Future Fund team byimplementing and improving new and existing policies and ways of working. To keep the business informed, you will track and monitor material risks before providing regular reports on 1LoD to key stakeholders around the organisation.Experience of working in an operational or financial risk management setting is imperative. You will also be able to demonstrate experience of providing first and second line risk control solutions, whilst being able to evidence implementation of frameworksand programmes. The role requires a high level of collaboration meaning you will need to possess strong interpersonal and communication skills with both internal and external colleagues. It is essential that you possess the knowledge of relevant laws and regulationssuch as AMLRs and POCA. You will need to possess an adaptable skillset and be willing to work on tasks outside those core to the role as and when required by the business.Substantial operational knowledge of Microsoft Office software, and experience of project management is required, as is the knowledge and experience of operating in the banking or financial sector.Whilst not essential, it would be preferable that you have had experience of SME lending and the risks associated, whilst also holding an understanding around financial analysis.
