Job Description

  • Development of manufacturing processes for new & insourced parts. Primarily based around CNC mill & lathe programming (CIMCO/Edgecam), fixture design, process optimisation and costing.

  1. Improve existing production processes as part of a Lean team or working on directed individual projects.
  2. Where necessary generate designs (CAD), procure / build and implement appropriate process solutions, including jigs, fixtures, work holding etc.
  3. Work with Lean champion to ensure improvement measures are recorded and documented.
  4. Ensure supporting procedural documentation is aligned with process improvements.
  5. Implement operational improvements to maximise utilisation through use of Lean principles and tools.
  6. Work with the product design engineers to actively encourage concurrent engineering practices in product development, promoting design for manufacture / design for assembly principles.
  7. Develop process control and the improvement / repeatability of existing processes.
  8. Actively participate in root cause analysis where non-conforming products/processes are identified, ensuring sustainable corrective actions are in place.
Profile
  1. General PC skills - Microsoft Office etc.
  2. Sound Engineering Background
  3. Strong understanding of CNC machinery and related processes, including programming (G Code - CIMCO, Edgecam), tool selection, program optimisation.
  4. Solid understanding of NPI processes and process improvement, such as jig/fixture design & design for manufacture.
  5. Knowledge of products produced by the group.
  6. Experience working with valves, and pressurised test equipment.
  7. HND / HNC Mechanical Engineering (or similar)
  8. Experience of working in a Lean manufacturing culture
  9. A thorough understanding of lean tools and practical experience of their use
  10. CAD and modelling skills to create engineering drawings/models (Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD)
  11. Practical awareness of health and safety requirements in the workplace.
