Healthcare/ Clinical Scientists in Genomics2 x Band 7 posts (1 permanent; 1 18 months in the first instance)37.5 hours per weekVacancies have arisen for 2 Band 7 HCPC registered (or soon to be registered) Healthcare / Clinical Scientists within the Sheffield Diagnostic Genetics Service (SDGS). Applications from registered Clinical Scientists from other STP disciplines and final year STP trainees are also welcomed.The vacancies are within both our Oncology and Rare Disease Services. The posts are subject to rotation into other areas in the laboratory. The post holder will have the opportunity to develop highly marketable knowledge, skills and further qualifications such as FRCPath via HSST etc.The successful applicants will have appropriate HCPC registration (or be close to completing STP training), will be prepared to train in new areas, be excellent communicators and contribute well to teamwork.SDGS is a fully integrated laboratory with an interdisciplinary workforce of approximately 110 scientific, technical, bioinformatics, informatics and administrative staff. We are based in state-of-the-art facilities in Sheffield Children’s NHS Foundation Trust, next to Sheffield Teaching Hospitals, The University of Sheffield and within close walking distance from Sheffield Hallam University and the city centre. We are part of the Yorkshire and North East Genomic Laboratory Hub (Y&NE GLH) for NHSEngland, and also provide extensive services for non-NHSEngland UK and international referrals. We have active research & Development and clinical trials programmes, collaborating with local universities and with industry partners.In response to NHS England’s recent Strategy and service Specification for the future of Genomics services in England, Newcastle Teaching Hospitals, Leeds Teaching Hospitals, Sheffield Children’s NHS Foundation Trust, Sheffield Teaching Hospitals and NewGene successfully formed the Yorkshire and North East Genomics Laboratory Hub; an exciting collaboration to provide services for Genomics across Yorkshire and Humber and the North.
