Job Description

Health, Safety & Wellbeing Consultant – Sheffield (Temp Vacancy) Pay Rate: £20.38ph Full-Time (37 hours)Job Purpose:To deliver actions which promote and assist the implementation of the health, safety and well-being strategy. To ensure the effective and consistent delivery of health, safety and well-being initiatives, procedures and practices.Accountabilities: Focussing on business outcomes

  • Support the delivery of services in line with service specifications and the agreed standards required by ensuring that the policy framework is future-focussed and robust
  • Undertake and report research and data analysis to support the development of new initiatives, policies and strategies
  • Deliver Health, Safety and Wellbeing services in line with the service offer and the agreed standards required
Leading business change
  • Keep under review SCC’s health, safety and wellbeing strategy and programme and provide assistance to Portfolios in its implementation
  • Promote, encourage and facilitate business improvement and change through the Health, Safety & Wellbeing contribution at council wide, portfolio, service and team level including schools
  • Work with colleagues in SCC, schools and in the City to enable the council via its workforce to contribute towards a healthy city and region.
  • Develop Health, Safety & Wellbeing projects and contribute to wider HR projects.
  • Take responsibility for the delivery of projects and programme work streams
  • Undertake research and analysis and make recommendations relating to employee Health, Safety and Well-being
Shaping and translating business strategy
  • Translate an understanding of council, portfolio, service and school needs into specific Health, Safety & Wellbeing interventions, and the development of appropriate policies and procedures
  • Work with colleagues to develop and deliver the strategy for Health, Safety & Wellbeing across the council which contribute to improved health, morale and ultimately workplace performance
  • Collect and evaluate management information to inform the Health, Safety & Wellbeing needs of the organisation
  • Ensure that the Health, Safety & Wellbeing contribution is delivered effectively to maximise contribution to organisational objectives
Delivering to customers
  • Deliver business focussed solutions for customers through the application of specialist technical knowledge and responsible management of risk.
  • Advise and report on matters relating to the health, safety and well-being of the organisation and present timely reports that seek to recommend and improve ways of working that enhances the experience of the workforce
  • Receive information from internal and external sources providers and utilise these to develop practical initiatives in liaison with Council portfolios / services.
  • Contribute to the delivery of fit for purpose policies, procedures, guidance and information relating to the health, safety and wellbeing of the workforce e.g., new SCC policy, HR policy and procedures etc.
  • Promote wellbeing for employees by assisting Portfolios in organising healthy living campaigns and ensuring the Council joins in with National events e.g. No smoking Day / World Aids Day etc.
  • Conduct audits of portfolio activities to assess the implementation of health and safety, make recommendations and conduct follow up as appropriate
  • Attend meetings outside of normal working hours if and when appropriate and required by the customer.
Managing Resources
  • Support the commissioning of additional / 3rd party services in accordance with established frameworks agreements etc. in consultation with the client leads
  • All duties and responsibilities are to be carried out in accordance with Sheffield City Council policies and procedures including policies on equality, diversity and inclusion and health and safety
