Job Description

Forge TraineeIndependent Forgings and Alloys (IFA) is one of the UK’s leading independent aerospace and industrial forgers. The unique feature about IFA is the combination of open and closed-die forging while also undertaking the whole production process from raw materialto the finished product in one location. Operating from a 680 000ft2 facility in Sheffield, we manufacture high-integrity, open-die and closed-die forged components in nickel alloy, titanium, stainless steel and carbon alloys for customers and tier-one supplierswithin the aerospace, nuclear, power generation, marine as well as oil and gas sector.As a trainee role, you will be expected have an overview of all aspects of working in the forge area gained over several years. As you complete your training (approximately 3 to 4 years) you should be able to complete the following duties:

  • Work in the forge environment in a way that is safe for you and for others
  • Identify material in the furnaces from the furnace book with assistance from the First Hand. Keep a log of the location of material as it moves around the forge, from furnace to press/hammer and back into furnace or cooling area
  • Hot stamping material at the end of the production process, including maintenance of stamps.
  • During forging process, you will be responsible for punching out the centre hole in rings and inserting mandrels, and using other tooling required for the forging process to produce quality products.
  • Maintain best housekeeping practices within the forge.
  • Take reasonable care of their own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by your acts or omissions at work, co-operate with others in the company to fulfil our statutory duties and not to interfere with or misuse or wilfully damage anythingthat is provided in the interest of health and safety.
  • Wear all PPE that is provided by the company as required, and ensure that colleagues do the same
  • Working in the team on the shop floor you will assist in guiding the manipulator drivers when required and assist in opening and shutting furnace doors
  • Other reasonable tasks as requested by your manager.
Qualifications and SkillsEssential:
  • 5 GCSEs at C or above including Maths
  • Interest in the forging industry
  • Evidence of working in a team effectively
  • Evidence of being able to take and follow instructions
Desirable:
  • Experience in a hot working environment
