Job Description

DevOps Lead - Inside IR35 - HIRING ASAPLocation: Remote working with 2 days per week in Sheffield officeDuration: 3 months initially with a view to extendDay Rate: £608 per dayInside IR35Summary

  • Leading the Engineering work to increase DevOps capabilities maturity within the client. Shape key workstreams in areas of Database automation, IaC (Terraform, Ansible), CI/CD (Jenkins), CD/RO (CloudBees CD/RO), cloud infrastructure (GCP, containers) etc.
  • GDT consists of seven platforms, 150+ pods, and 1000+ people working in this area. The scope of the role is leading DevOps workstream for one of the platforms in GDT.
  • The role will also entail coaching and mentoring graduates.
  • The candidate will need to be available to work from the client office in Sheffield or travel a few times per month to Sheffield.
Responsibilities
  • Define DevOps strategies that align with GDT CTOs organisational goals
  • Demonstrate practical experience of engineering best practices while being obsessed with continuous improvement
  • Have a firm grasp of Databases (SQL and NoSQL), Data Engineering, ETL development processes and how DevOps practices can be applied
  • Have experience delivering software/ technology projects leveraging Agile methodologies
  • Have played a lead role in the delivery of critical business applications and, ideally, customer-facing applications
  • Communicate complex ideas to non-experts with eloquence and confidence
  • Have an awareness and understanding of new technologies being used in finance and other industries and loves to experiment
Key Skills
  • Expert in the Software Development Lifecycle with both a Dev and Ops mindset
  • Deep understanding of containerisation, its security in a highly regulated environment and awareness of container orchestration concepts, including hands-on Docker experience of building containers and deploying containers into production
  • Proven experience using GCP and strong understanding of IAM, GCP networking, storage (cloud storage buckets), compute (google compute engine) and Data services such as BigQuery (datasets, tables, bq)
  • Great appreciation of DevOps and Infrastructure as a Code concept and techniques, using Terraform
  • Hands-on experience in using scripting with Python and Groovy to build CI/CD pipelines on Jenkins
  • Driven the implementation of DevOps solutions within a project or organisation, ensuring compliance with organisation standards and best practices
  • Understanding of application and system monitoring tools with experience in auto-healing, autoscaling and predictive monitoring
  • Experienced in Automation and Configuration Management tools such as Ansible and Helm
  • TDD or BDD understanding and how to enable and orchestrate the different types of tests required by the quality phase
  • Experience/understanding of Kubernetes and the critical operational challenges to support smooth migration to the platform
