Job Description

Cordant People are currently recruiting for a Decontamination Assistant for a busy hospital based in Sheffield.S10Monday to Friday 9am-5pm and 10am-6pm rotating on a weekly basisThis is a temporary role until mid April for now.£8.92p/h to £9.09p/hAs a Decontamination Assistant you will test and manually clean flexible endoscope before placing them into a washer disinfector. Unload the flexible scopes and place them into storage. The scopes will require quality checks throughout the process andtracking by a computer system. You may also be required to deliver and collect scopes to the service users within agreed times.Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Carry out all daily tests and housekeeping duties on the decontamination equipment and keep all work areas tidy and free from hazards.
  • Collect and deliver scopes to and from the service users, scanning in all areas for track and traceability of scopes and probes.
  • Perform leakage tests on all scopes.
  • Pre clean all scopes, brushing them through as per guidelines.
  • Decontaminate flexible scopes using the automated washer disinfectors.
  • Complete necessary paperwork as part of the quality tracking system for each scope.
  • Prepare scopes for return to all areas and specialities and return scopes as per the daily schedule.
  • Inform Clinical Engineering of any repairs and complete necessary paperwork. Pack damaged scopes securely for Clinical Engineering to collect from the department.
  • Check and monitor scopes and decontamination equipment for problems.
  • Report and troubleshoot any problems with machinery to the Supervisor.
  • Ensure decontamination of washer disinfectors and RO plant is carried out as per protocol.
  • Prioritise daily workload and process scopes in accordance with scheduled lists. Chase up list information where necessary to avoid delays to clinical areas and patients.
  • Prioritise and disinfect scopes to ensure users requirements are met in line with the agreed service level agreements and the daily requirement schedule.
  • Programme washer disinfectors to self-disinfect as per department policy.
  • Change detergents as required and record batch numbers in the control logs.
  • In the event of an emergency endoscopy procedure being carried out ensure plans are in place to fast track the scope through the decontamination cycle.
  • Alert the supervisor or the decontamination manager of any consumable low stock levels. Put all stock away safely and securely.
  • Maintain an awareness of the value of endoscopes and kits.
  • Dispose of clinical waste appropriately.
  • Maintain accurate records in the decontamination room of all scope activity,repairs and leak testing.
  • Maintain accurate log and card filing system of complete service history for all scopes, washer disinfectors and endoscopic equipment.
  • Ensure all daily, weekly, quarterly and annual logs are kept up to date.
  • Ensure all detergent logs are kept up to date
