Job Description

Salary: £36,526.28 per annumContract Type: Full Time, permanentLocation: SheffieldJOB OVERVIEWStudy Groups pathway programmes are specially designed, university-recognised courses that help students to gain the academic, English language and learning standards necessary in order to succeed in the UK or European education environment. The University of Sheffield International College is the largest pathway college within the UK & Europe with over 1,500 students enrolled annually. Our international students study bespoke academic programmes, which provide them with a pathway into the University of Sheffield for undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes.This is an exciting job opportunity for you to join the centre as the Curriculum Leader (Maths). In this varied and fast-paced role youll have the opportunity to play a key role within the Maths team, with curriculum, module coordination, and teaching (up to 16 hours teaching per week) responsibilities. To be successful, youll need a commitment to excellence in teaching and scholarship, have strong strategic planning skills, and be action orientated with acute attention to detail. Youll have an enthusiastic student-centred approach, as well as a performance-driven team player.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • You will provide academic team leadership, contribute to the delivery of excellent student outcomes; quality assurance and enhancement that is commended by the QAA; and curriculum innovation which embeds strong collaborative working with both the University and the network.
  • You will be responsible for leading and supporting the Mathematics subject area.
  • Reporting to the Head of Mathematics, you will work closely with senior colleagues within and outside of the College and be accountable for the delivery of contractually required progression rates to the University.
  • In addition to the effective line management of teaching staff you will also have accountability for student outcomes across a defined groups of modules.
  • QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
  • At least a Masters Degree in Maths, Computer Science, Physical Sciences or Engineering subject.
  • A teaching qualification (or is currently working towards one) is desirable
  • A good understanding of the UK pathway education context both from a business and academic perspective.
  • Experience, and a positive track record, of academic management and quality assurance in UK further and/or higher education.
  • Experience teaching Mathematics at Level 3
  • Experience teaching Mathematics or Statistics or Java Programming at Level 6
  • Experience of writing summative assessments (examination or coursework) for Level 3 or above
  • Experience of leading, advising or supporting others to develop curricula.
  • Experience of working within a Virtual Learning Environment.
  • KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS
  • Proven ability to engage in discussions and negotiations, diplomatically and sensitively with a wide range of stakeholders at various levels of seniority
  • Ability to plan, model, coordinate, manage and maximize pathway resources effectively
  • Strong record-keeping skills with competence in administrative IT skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, e-mail)
  • Working knowledge of MATLAB and LaTeX is desirable.
