Job Description

Vascular services include Firth 2 which is a 32-bedded ward, which includes 28 vascular beds, vascular angiography suite, and outpatient clinics at the Northern General and Hallamshire sites at Sheffield Teaching Hospital Trust. We also provide a service at Barnsley and Rotherham District General hospitals. Sheffield is the arterial centre of a vascular network.The Vascular Nurse Specialist team is currently made up of two experienced Senior Vascular Nurse Specialists and we are excited to be able to expand our close and well supported team.As a band 6 Vascular Nurse Specialist, you will receive a comprehensive training package. You will be closely supervised while you develop the skills and expertise that you will require to work autonomously. These will include history taking, examination, assessment and diagnosis of patients with multiple vascular conditions.You will also develop the skills in advanced wound care for people with complex wounds and this will include compression bandaging.You will be expected to work closely with the vascular surgical and endovascular consultants as well as the wider MDT including the Diabetic foot team, Community Nursing, Tissue Viability and Plastic Surgery.The role also includes continuous involvement in research and audit plus an active teaching role.Patients under our care will have the following conditions:

  • Abdominal aortic aneurysms
  • Peripheral arterial disease
  • Critical limb ischaemia/necrosis
  • Venous disease
  • Carotid disease
  • Leg ulcers
  • Arterial bypass surgery and endovascular intervention.
  • Major Amputations
  • Minor amputations
  • Mental health issues/IVDU
  • Diabetic foot ulcers We are supportive of flexible working although the role needs to cover service requirements.
  • Patients with arterial disease tend to have multiple co-morbidities including IHD, diabetes and frailty.
