Job Description

Assistant Engineering ManagerKey DetailsWork hours: 37.5 hours per weekLocation: Hillsborough, SheffieldJob type: Permanent, Full-timeIndependent Forgings and Alloys (IFA) is one of the UKs leading independent aerospace and industrial forgers. The unique feature about IFA is the combination of open and closed-die forging while also undertaking the whole production process from raw materialto the finished product in one location. Operating from a 680 000ft2 facility in Sheffield, we manufacture high-integrity, open-die and closed-die forged components in nickel alloy, titanium, stainless steel and carbon alloys for customers and tier-one supplierswithin the aerospace, nuclear, power generation, marine as well as oil and gas sector.Main Purpose of the RoleAn exciting new position, created to assist the Engineering Manager and responsible for managing a growing team of skilled maintenance engineers. The role includes the implementation and improvement of the preventative maintenance program using the ShireSystem.Key Accountabilities

  1. Assist the Manager in managing the following elements of plant maintenance.
    • Responsibility for Planned Preventative Maintenance and breakdown response.
    • Demonstrating the up keep of the PPM system to external/internal auditors including adding any reactive maintenance.
    • Proactively managing maintenance spares including percurrent/stock taking of critical spares and progress chasing.
    • Producing detail reports using excel and other Microsoft products on department spend, hours worked and overtime, plant availability.
    • Representing the Engineering Manager in weekly meetings and fill in during holiday absence.
  1. Project management.
    • Various levels of involvement depending on business needs.
  1. Assist with management of environmental issues and controls
  • Control of engineering generated waste.
  • Control and prevention of site generated pollution.
  • Control and minimisation of energy consumption.
  • Adherence to all legislation.
Skills and ExperienceEssential:
  • Recognised engineering industry qualification - apprentice trained or similar.
  • Experience of managing small teams of people with knowledge or ability to learn management techniques.
  • Basic knowledge of legislation including Health, Safety and the Environment that are relevant to the job role and ability research legislation in more detail as needed
  • Basic experience in all elements of project and site management and the ability to develop this skill over time
  • Relevant experience of similar plant and equipment
  • Effective communication skills with maintenance team, co workers, sub contractors
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritise, multitask, organise, and manage time effectively.
QualificationsEssential:
  • Educated to 5 GCSEs equivalent to A-C, including Maths and English.
  • Recognised engineering qualifications

  • Higher or further education in a related subject.
