Job Description

I am currently recruiting an Anatomical Pathology Technician to work on behalf of my client, a leading public sector organisation based in Sheffield.The hours of work are full time (37 per week) and the hourly pay rate is around £16.60 to £18.40.As a member of a team to contribute to the effective provision of a comprehensive Mortuary Service at the Medico-Legal Centre your role will involve:

  • Admit bodies and record accurate and complete information for the period they remain at the Medico-Legal Centre in accordance with procedures using IT systems as necessary
  • Assist with all types of post-mortem examination including Cat 3 Risk as directed by the pathologist and reconstitute bodies to the highest possible standard.
  • Be on the standby rota to assist with forensic post-mortem examinations and admittance of bodies associated with forensic cases
  • Carry all out correct processes and procedures in respect of retained tissue specimens and their tracking and transfer
  • Prepare bodies and coordinate arrangements for identification and viewing
  • Communicate effectively and sympathetically with bereaved families
  • Clean the post-mortem rooms, mortuary suite, instruments and other mortuary equipment to the highest standard.
  • Maintain adequate stocks of equipment, materials and laundry.
  • Communicate and liaise effectively with pathologists, police, ambulance service personnel, funeral directors, medical staff, coroners officers, laboratory staff, contractors and others as appropriate
  • Provide the telephone enquiry service and take responsibility for the Centre and its security as required
  • Welcome visitors, conduct tours and provide information as required
  • Work flexibly on a rolling shift system to ensure effective service provision during the Mortuarys opening hours providing day and bank holiday cover as required, on a regular basis plus relief cover for sickness, holidays etc.
  • Participate in team and other meetings when required, attending outside shift hours when necessary
  • As a Person Designated under the Human Tissue Licence carry out all operations in the mortuary in compliance with the requirements of the Licence with respect to the deceased and sensitivity to the bereaved.
  • Carry out all duties to the highest professional standards in accordance with standard operating procedures and health and safety requirements
To be successful in this role you will:
  • Have a Certificate in Anatomical Pathology Technology
  • Have Manual handling experience/training
  • Have Clear verbal and written communication skills
  • Be confident using IT systems
  • Have good attention and accuracy to documentary detail
  • Be able to concentration for extended periods
  • Be able to work under pressure and with competing demands
  • Be ale to work calmly and effectively both independently and as a member of a team
  • Have confidence in the handling of potentially infectious pathological specimens
