Job Description

Support WorkerDid you know on average 100 children and young people enter the care system every dayYMCA Robin Hood Group are opening our first home in Selby and are recruiting people looking to move into a support or care worker position and join us as a Therapeutic Residential Care Worker to be part of our new team. We already operate not-for-profit homes for children aged 5-17 years old providing them with a safe, loving, nurturing home and are looking forward to being able to extend our care to more children in Selby. At YMCA Robin Hood Group we specifically to support those children who have been affected by trauma, abuse or neglect. We follow atrauma-informed therapeutic care model.Salary: £22,800Base salary £22,800Plus Sleep-Ins (*based on 8 sleeps in per month) £4,320 per annumPlus performance related pay up to £3,000 per annumBenefits: Lots of great additional benefits listed towards the bottom of the advertLocations: Selby and GooleContractType: Full Time, PermanentHours: 40 per week Working on a rotating shift patternYou will work on average 40 hours per week including a 30 mins paid break. As to be expected, the home needs cover 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year so your shifts may include early starts, late finishes and over nights. On average you will work7 shifts across a 3 week rolling rota.What experience you need to have to become a Therapeutic Residential Care Worker:Whether your background is in residential care, nursing, teaching or just being a parent yourself, we relish the opportunity to bring new experience, skills and perspective into our team.We’d also be keen to hear for general Support & Care Workers who have gained their experience from outside of a residential setting. This role could also be suitable for graduates with a psychological degree looking to build on some similar work experience. Whilst we will support you to gain your level 3 Diploma for Residential Care, we are really open to your background and previous experience. We are looking for you to embody our YMCA Robin Hood Group core values; Honesty, Responsibility, Respect and Care. Ideally you will drive and have your own car to facilitate travelling between the different homes.Training you will get when you join to ensure your able to succeed in this role:With our comprehensive induction plan, where we will spend the first 2 weeks training you fully in our therapeutic care model followed by shadow shifts in your home so you are able to follow these principles in all work you do with the children and young people.Depending on your level of experience you will then be paired with a mentor to help you succeed. About the role of a Therapeutic Residential Care Worker:As a Therapeutic Residential Care Worker, you will work really closely with these children supporting them in every aspect of their life; getting ready for school, playing games, planning weekend activities and holidays, homework, cooking, cleaning and washing.Whether the child is in crisis and at risk of harm or having a reflective conversation on the sofa, you will have all the tools you require to be able to listen without judgement, show empathy and offer support and practical ways to regulate behaviour and ifneeded, be confident in techniques to reduce harm to them, your colleagues and the home.We don’t work on consequences or punishments, instead we work on positive reinforcement, restorative justice and working closely with the children so they feel safe and supported even at times of crisis.You will be working in a residential home that’s receives a minimum of “Good” Ofsted rating with Outstanding in Leaderships in many of our homes. Your managers are hands on and lead by example, work alongside the rest of the team, advocate for our childrenand support their teams like they were family.As a Therapeutic Residential Care Worker you will be working as part of a staff team within the home but also as part of the wider Residential Care team where you will work collaboratively across the different homes providing cover and support when needed;our whole-team approach means you broaden your experiences within different homes, build more relationships as you work with different people on shift and learn from all the subtle differences each home presents.BenefitsAt YMCA Robin Hood Group, you will have many additional benefits, including but not limited to:
