Job Description

My client is a leading solutions brand and looking for a competent Linux Administrator to support the Linux Redhat/ CentOS estate in a range of tasks such as incident response, patch management, performance monitoring, development and test environment maintenance, log analysis, and scripting.Accountabilities and Tasks:

  • Day-to-day Linux server administration such as applying updates, monitoring performance, analysing long-term trends
  • Administration of development and test environments to ensure that development and test teams follow the correct workflow
  • Packaging of in-house software and support tools
  • Development of support scripts for the service desk
  • Analysis of system and proxy logs
    • Position Requirements - mandatory:
  • Red Hat / CentOS server administration: RHEL 5/6, CentOS 5/6
  • Shell scripting (bash)
  • Networking fundamentals - knowledge of the OSI model; familiarity with the more common text-based protocols such as SMTP and HTTP
  • SQL (MySQL dialect)
  • Logical approach to problem solving
  • Good customer communication skills
  • Able to liaise both with clients and development team to address issues efficiently
  • A strong desire to learn new skills
  • A flexible approach to the provision of support services to a dynamic, rapidly expanding business
    • Position Requirements - desirable:
  • Virtualisation (KVM, ESXi)
  • Version control software such as Subversion
  • Perl scripting
  • Javascript, HTML, CSS
  • Familiarity with common network services - SMTP, HTTP, LDAP, Kerberos,NFS, DNS, DHCP, HTTP proxy, SMB
  • Apache
  • Samba
  • Squid
  • Good working knowledge of Linux in a Windows Active Directory environment
  • Basic understanding and experience of Windows
  • MySQL DBA experience
