Job Description

Job title: Hospital AssistantLocation: Greater Manchester Animal HospitalSalary: Circa. £18,000 per annum plus 4% shift allowanceHours: 35Closing date: 10:00 Wednesday 16th December 2020The RSPCA is the largest animal welfare charity in England and Wales. Our purpose is to prevent cruelty, promote kindness and alleviate the suffering of all animals.Greater Manchester Animal Hospital is a vibrant hospital teeming with people and animals alike, the Hospital can accommodate around 100 animals at any one time, providing a 24 hour veterinary service for sick or injured animals.Many of the animals we care for have been rescued by RSPCA Inspectors and Animal Collection Officers from situations where they are suffering from cruelty and neglect, or when they are seriously injured and have no owner to care for them.Our dedicated team ensures that these poorly animals are provided with the care they need; from repairing broken bones and treating wounds to running blood tests and performing life-saving surgeries.We are looking for a Hospital Assistant who is confident, organised and driven by the cause of preventing animal cruelty.What you’ll be doing:

  • Undertaking nursing duties including theatre, ward and euthanasia duties as directed
  • Undertaking, on a roster basis, emergency and out of hours cover
  • Undertaking general cleaning duties throughout the hospital including equipment, animal quarters and premises
  • Maintaining up to date and accurate clinical records for every animal that comes into the hospital
  • Dispensing drugs in accordance with professional guidelines and hospital rules
  • Carrying out telephone and general reception duties on a roster basis as required
  • Taking accurate payments from clients for veterinary services received at the time of consultation in line with RSPCA policy
  • What you’ll have:
  • Self-motivation and an ability to manage your own time
  • Previous experience of animal care work
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • The ability to demonstrate teamwork with veterinary animal centre and Inspectorate
  • colleagues
  • An NVQ Level 2 in Animal Care or equivalent e.g. VCA, ANA is desirable.
