Job Description

About the Role:You will be working in a new histology laboratory set up to produce slides for Laser capture microscopy (LCM) and routine histology.Your primary role will be to carry out histological laboratory protocols and procedures including, sample preparation, paraffin embedding, paraffin and frozen sectioning, H&E staining, slide scanning and data entry.Depending on demand, you will also be expected to assist in the CASM support lab carrying out PCR based technology, nucleic acid extraction and QC.You will be involved in supporting the day-to-day management of the lab, including health and safety, monitoring lab resources and reporting equipment/experiment faults and assist in trouble-shooting.About You:You will have understanding of the process to produce Histological slides and Laser capture Microscopy.You will be given training and guidance to fulfil the role to work independently as well as part of a team. You will have good communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders. Essential Skills Technical Skills:

  • Degree in Biological Sciences or relevant laboratory experience.
  • Ability to follow instructions/protocols accurately & efficiently.
  • Computer literate, experience using MS Excel.

  • Able to work both as part of a team and also independently, once appropriate training and guidance have been provided.
  • Ability to work independently and organise own workload.
  • Good attention to detail and record keeping.
  • Able to take instruction, and work to guidelines and SOPs, with appropriate use of initiative when necessary.
Ideal Skills Technical Skills:
  • Practical experience working within a laboratory environment.
  • Experience using laboratory information management systems.
