Job Description

The OpportunityWe are offering an exciting opportunity for Project Managers to join our team. This is a key role within the Genomic Surveillance Team, ensuring that projects meet quality standards, operate in a risk-managed environment, and are completed on time and withinbudget, with complete stakeholder satisfaction.The Sanger Genomic Surveillance Team have been leading COVID-19 activities to provide large-scale genome sequencing of samples; supporting public health agencies to detect and manage outbreaks. This work, together with other exciting scientific product activityin the area of Genomic Surveillance, forms part of the overall Genomic Surveillance programme of projects.About the TeamThe work of our Genomic Surveillance team accounts for a significant proportion of the worlds publicly available SARS-CoV-2 genomes enabling the identification of novel variants and imported cases impacting public health decisions through Public HealthAgencies, as seen through the identification of several Variants Of Concern.These discoveries have led to increased government and media Public Health attention as the benefit of housing a state-of-the-art genomic surveillance service is realised. Our team is rapidly growing in line with the increasing demand for genomic surveillanceand we are now recruiting additional Project Managers to be part of the team driving success.About the Role

  • Delivering quality and value for each project managed, adopting appropriate methodologies which ensure appropriate execution of the project throughout its lifecycle to its ultimate successful delivery, within a risk managed environment
  • Knowledge of and experience in different methodologies and ability to select most appropriate
  • Collaborate with all project management personnel and stakeholders engaged in the projects and Programme activity, to ensure consistency of understanding, objectives, transparency of approach, knowledge sharing and understanding and management of inter-dependencies
  • Plan and manage the project including oversight of all workstreams, their progress and successful delivery and drive the project in line with agreed plans, with the ability to respond to changes in circumstances or priorities
  • Prepare and manage all documentation (project records, plans, papers, reports, options analysis etc.) - always ensure these are auditable
About youFor this role, you will work with a team of Project Managers in an extensive, dynamic and fast-paced environment with continually shifting focus and priorities. You will be required to engage and collaborate with many other teams, and so good communicationand collaboration skills are essential.You will require an understanding of project methodologies and how each project is being delivered against the lifecycle and methodology in use and be practiced in creating and maintaining the common and fundamental project management processes e.g., initiation,planning, executing, monitoring, risk management, change control and associated project schedules and documentationDue to the pace of change within the team you must be able to prioritise activities and meet deadlines whilst preserving the high level of accuracy and confidentiality needed. Essential Skills Technical Skills
  • Experience of delivering successful projects using either a waterfall or agile methodology
  • High level of IT skills including an advanced knowledge of the MS Office Suite - especially MS Excel, Word and PowerPoint and also the G-Suite of applications and process mapping software

  • Excellent problem solving skills - able to break down complex issues and work through to resolution with appropriate options analysis and assessment processes
Ideal Skills Technical Skills
  • Project Management qualification, e.g. APM, PMP, Agile Project management, Prince2
  • Experience of both waterfall and agile methodologies and adoption of these as relevant to the project
  • Good understanding of Project Management software
  • Understanding of the charitable sector and knowledge of a scientific research environment
  • Drive process improvement opportunities
