Job Description

The ideal candidate will have experience of managing projects and developing products, and an understanding of the journalism and media sector. It will be an advantage to have experience of training delivery and developing e-learning products but those with transferrable skills and the enthusiasm to learn something new would be very welcome to apply.In return for your hard work, they provide a competitive salary, a great working environment and help to develop your skills and extend your experience.Key responsibilitiesReporting to their head of partnerships and projects, the main areas of responsibility are to:

  • Oversee the development, planning, budgeting and organisation of all NCTJ training activities and resources across all platforms under the banner of the NCTJs Journalism Skills Academy - including in-person and remote training events, e-learning programmes and qualifications by distance learning.
  • Generate income and exposure for the NCTJ through the development and promotion of the Journalism Skills Academy (including developing new products and programmes) and by securing partners, clients and learners for their training activities.
  • Manage the JSA team including the training co-ordinator and a team of consultants and trainers
  • Assist the head of partnerships and projects to build relationships with the charitys stakeholders and to develop strategies for the charitys training work.
  • About youOur client, The NCTJ, is looking for someone with the ability to revolutionise their training provision under the banner of the Journalism Skills Academy. You must be able to plan ahead, be thorough and have an eye for detail - and you must also be able to think on your feet. You will bring new ideas to the team and be able to multi-task, prioritise and work efficiently to tight deadlines.Experience of journalism and/or training delivery and products is preferred but they are happy for someone to grow into the role. We are looking for people who have positive and proactive attitudes and an appetite to learn, progress and make a difference. With the NCTJ expanding its work in many areas, this is a great opportunity to help shape new training programmes and products for journalists.Experience with Moodle - or a similar platform - is an advantage but not a prerequisite.You will have a friendly, professional and confident manner in dealing with people at all levels and from different backgrounds and all walks of life.All staff at the NCTJ must have an excellent standard of English and good writing ability as well as digital and IT skills.BenefitsThis full-time post attracts an annual salary of £40,000-£45,000 (depending on experience) with probationary, annual and promotion salary reviews.Other financial benefits include a five per cent employer pension contribution, life insurance, company bonus scheme and 25 days of holiday.There are staff events and personal development training opportunities and a great working environment. They are currently working remotely but the job is normally based at their lovely offices in the North Essex village of Newport near Saffron Walden and may involve some UK-wide travel.
