Job Description

The Head of Production is a senior leadership role, responsible for managing and developing the Production team, ensuring the manufacturing processes run reliably & efficiently and that required output targets are met. The Production teamis made up of scientific glassblowers, assemblers and admin staff who are all responsible for the manufacture and assembly of company products. This will require occasional UK and international travel.

  • Manage Production personnel - responsible for building high levels of communication, performance evaluation, development and capability
  • Recruit, retain and adequately reward staff to optimise performance and ensure right levels of capacity to meet future demand
  • Effectively manage resources in line with forecast demand, to deliver product on time, within cost and to the correct quality levels
  • Work closely with Supply Chain to successfully co-ordinate Supply Chain demand and Production scheduling
  • Improve productivity with improvements in processes e.g. Lean, 5S, 6 Sigma, Kaizen and the use of tooling, jigs & automation where appropriate and viable
  • Lead and support a culture of continuous improvement by proactively seeking to improve all processes and procedures and ensuring that staff and management are involved and engaged
  • Ensure that equipment and facilities are suitable for current and future demand - being proactive in making investment suggestions and ensuring preventative maintenance programs are in place
  • Develop, implement, track and report on KPIs to monitor performance and drive improvements
  • Manage Production budgets and forecasting
  • Work with the R&D team to enable the successful transition of products from development to Production
  • Implement, maintain and monitor Production quality control systems in line with business requirements
To be successful in this role of Head of Production we would love to speak to anyone who has experience of:
  • 10 years minimum production management experience
  • Strong people management and leadership skills, with a proven track record of performance evaluation, development, capability and engaging teams
  • Educated to degree or equivalent level in a manufacturing or technical discipline
  • Solid understanding of cost analysis, financial productivity and the importance of direct cost management
  • Good understanding and knowledge of continuous improvement techniques
  • Understanding of Quality systems in manufacturing environments
  • Transition of products from R&D to production
  • Efficient and effective time management, planning and organisation
  • Fully IT literate with standard Microsoft Office packages, with particular strengths using Microsoft Excel
  • Chemistry / science background
  • Scientific glassblowing knowledge
