Job Description

Our client, a market-leading niche SME manufacturer with a global presence, is seeking an accomplished and driven Chief Scientific Officer to support the senior management with the next phase of their growth agenda. Reporting to the Managing Director, youwill have primary responsibility for the strategic, operational and technical management of Research & Development within the company as part of the Senior Leadership Team.Responsibilities include:

  • Overall responsibility for the Strategic, Operational and Technical management of Research & Development within the company
  • Take the lead role in the R&D strategy for new and innovative materials and products in the short, medium and long term
  • Ensure the R&D group operates efficiently
  • Support, advise and report to the MD and other stakeholders on all aspects of R&D
  • Develop and maintain external relationships such as scientific centres of excellence, identifying new markets for material applications, and exploration of funding opportunities
  • Define and prioritise the product development projects to deliver new and innovative materials for commercially viable products as part of the strategic plan
  • Assessment of new and diverse scientific projects, new opportunities within the industry, new research opportunities or technological ventures that offer genuine business growth
  • Engage meaningfully with the Group companies to maximise collaboration, advantages and opportunities
  • Represent the business scientific goals to external stakeholders including industry events and shareholder meetings
  • Undertake all matters with a full awareness of industry regulation and compliance, and financial, budgetary and cost control implications
  • Lead, manage, support and mentor a small R&D team
Qualities required:
  • Strong scientific education and background, PhD or MD with strong record of scientific accomplishment
  • Proven track record of delivery of key milestones from inception to clinical studies and the ability to contribute at a technical level to multiple programs simultaneously
  • Background in Polymer Chemistry
  • Strong communicator with an ability to lead and influence across the business
  • A Hands-On self-starter with a proven track record of success in a growing SME manufacturing business
  • Adaptability, flexibility, independence and resourcefulness to lead a big vision strategy and also willing to roll up your sleeves and multi-task
