Job Description

We have a new opportunity for an experienced archivist to join us. This is an exciting new opportunity to work for a leading biomedical research institute to establish brand new archive facility and ensure that historically relevant evidence of the Sanger Institute’s science is preserved for future use.This is a part time role, working 22 hours per week on a fixed term contract of 3 years.About the role:The initial purpose of the role is setting up an institutional archive to preserve the Sanger Institute’s history, scientific work and role in the international scientific community.You will be responsible for establishing the archive and the associated recordkeeping processes and policies according to good professional practice. This relates to both physical and digital materials, and will require identifying storage requirements and budget.You will work closely with multiple teams at the Sanger Institute, Connecting Science and Wellcome Genome Campus, developing relationships with the stakeholders as both creators and users of records and archives. At a later stage, the role will evolve to running the service.About you:Youll enjoy managing archival collections, making these collections accessible, and able to take on the duties and responsibilities described above in a self-directed fashion with minimal supervision.About us:The Wellcome Sanger Institute is one of the leading centres of genomics research and innovation in the world, carrying out leading-edge scientific research using genome sequences to understand the biology of humans and pathogens. It carries out biomedical research at often-unprecedented scale, generating and analysing vast quantities of data. Essential Skills

  • Masters/Diploma in Archives & Records Management or other relevant advanced degree or equivalent experience.
  • Extensive experience as an archivist or a records manager.
  • Good interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate at all levels and build effective relationships and networks within organisation and externally.
  • Ability to manage own priorities within a supportive team environment.
  • Ideal Skills
  • Experience of working with contemporary and modern records and archives, preferably in a natural sciences environment.
  • Excellent project management skills with experience managing complex relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Other information Due to Covid 19, the Wellcome Genome Campus closed for all but essential functions and facilities.
