Job Description

Were looking for a Senior Highways Engineer to join our Transportation team based in Rushden to be responsible for development and preparation of concept, preliminary and detailed design of a range of highway and infrastructure projects. You need to bedriven and accountable, and able to work with minimal direction and supervision. Youll also need to have strong communication skills. A full driving licence and own vehicle is an essential requirement for this position.Can you envision a world without transportation links by land, sea, or air Neither can we! Join us at Kier Transportation, where we are working brilliantly together to make a difference, supporting the movement of people, goods,and equipment.Location: Rushden, Northamptonshire - some remote working available, with travel to the office required (2 days per week)Contract: Permanent FulltimeSalary: £43k - £50k + private healthcare + benefitsResponsibilitiesAs a Senior Highways Engineer, youll undertake the feasibility, preliminary and detailed design of highway maintenance and improvement schemes to DMRB and local authority standards using AutoCAD software including preparation of contract drawings.Your day to day will include:

  • Work collaboration with other design disciplines in Common Data Environments and acquire the knowledge and practical skills through on-the-job learning
  • Prepare the full engineering data package required for commencement of the detailed design and participate in answering on-going clarifications/queries as needed
  • Provide design support to the highways design team(s) and oversee preparation of technical drawings, specifications and design calculations
  • Maintain good relations with the Client and other authorities, attending meetings as necessary
  • Accountable for own budgetary, quality, safety and time frame targets for projects
What are we looking forThis role of Senior Highways Engineer is great if you have:
  • Degree (BSc, BEng, MSc MEng) in Civil Engineering, Highways Engineering, Transportation
  • Chartered (CEng)/ incorporated (IEng) professional or working towards becoming chartered or incorporated engineer with ICE, CIHT or IHE
  • Experience and knowledge about highways geometry, pavement design, signs & road markings, drainage, vehicle restraint systems.
  • CSCS Card, SMSTS or equivalent.
