Job Description

Transport Planner - Exports - VR/21466The Company & Role:Our client is a specialist in the transport of part loads and full loads from all over Europe to Great Britain and vice versa. They are currently looking for a Transport Planner based in Cheshire to operate within their planning department.Duties of the Transport Planner:

Demonstrating cost awareness in decision making processes.

Commercial awareness and able to provide high service levels to clients.

Prioritising workload to complete all tasks in a timely and concise manner.

Demonstrating a sound knowledge of load securing and safe loading of vehicles.

Export transport planning and scheduling.

Taking phone calls and dealing with general enquiries, customer quotations, etc.

Developing business with clients and maximising opportunities to ensure all available trailers have appropriate reloads.

Input of data including entering / updating job files maintaining transport planning computer system.

Quotations to clients, taking bookings

Liaising with other offices both internally and abroad in relation to export loads, ferry companies in respect of ferry bookings, and drivers to ensure they are adequately instructed in respect of jobs allocated.

Delivering good customer service consistently.

Ensuring the drivers and hauliers provide adequate levels of service.

Other general department duties and any other task as deemed reasonable for the effective running of the department / organisation.

Requirements for the Transport Planner position:

Experience of working in a transport / freight forwarding environment is essential.

Must possess a good geographical knowledge of UK & Europe.

Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a similar role and must possess an excellent knowledge of European import / export markets.

Knowledge of cargo loading capabilities and cargo / trailer planning is essential.

Good communicator, strong written and verbal communication skills, people oriented, good telephone manner, problem solver and an outgoing personality is a must.

Able to work as part of a team, under own initiative and cope under pressure in a busy department.

Commercial awareness and able to provide high service levels to clients.

Demonstrate cost awareness in decision making processes.

IT literate with knowledge of Microsoft and able to adapt to in-house bespoke systems.

Able to demonstrate a sound knowledge of load securing and safe loading of vehicles.

Knowledge of ADR is an advantage.

Knowledge of customs clearance is an advantage.
