Job Description

This is a unique opportunity for an experienced, bright and versatile Mechanical Design Engineer to contribute to the design and development of a diverse range of devices and scientific instruments. Youll need plenty of experience working with a range of techniques, including very fine mechanics, plastic consumables, optics, lasers and microfluidics (ideally, all of these!). Your background must be in biotechnology/medical devices (instrumentation, rather than consumer). Relocation assistance is also available.Your main responsibilities will be:* Working with multi-disciplinary teams of scientists and engineers to develop innovative solutions for clients* Playing a key role in concept development and the evolution of detailed design solutions using CAD* Using your technical knowledge to work with precise and challenging mechanical requirements* Managing external suppliers and sourcing materials as requiredQualifications and Training* Experience of product or instrumentation development in a high technology industry* 10 years relevant experience working in life science instrumentation* Ideally, experience designing within a regulated environment (eg in-vitro diagnostics, drug discovery)* Highly proficient in 3D CAD (ideally including SolidWorks)Skills and Experience* Innovative problem solving* Wide range of design experience which may include products, assembly jigs, test equipment or instrumentation* Excellent time management skills, able to balance priorities of multiple projects* Able to present ideas through sketches, and ideally also animations or renderings* Knowledge of a wide range of manufacturing techniques* Ability to design plastic injection moulded parts would be an advantage* Experience of sourcing off-the-shelf and custom parts and building relationships with and managing suppliers* Hands-on ability to build, test and troubleshootStart: Immediate Location: Royston, HertfordshireSalary: 50,000 to £65,000Benefits: * A generous employer pension contribution* Employee share scheme* Private medical insurance* Profit share* 25 days annual holiday plus bank holidays* Life insurance* Discounts and memberships to local sports facilities and the theatre* Cycle to Work scheme* A comprehensive relocation package is also available, if applicable.If you are interested in this position, feel you have the relevant experience and skills and would like to apply, please call our team on or apply online.Whilst wed love to get back to every applicant, it is not always possible, so if you havent heard from us within 3-5 days, please note that your application has not been successful on this occasion.Aspire Cambridge is acting as an Employment Agency in regards to this Fixed Term Contract opportunity.
