Job Description

Room Leader Childcare PractitionerJob Type: Full time, permanentLocation: Royston, G21 2QASalary: £22,425 per annumThe RoleThe Nursery provides cost-effective extended childcare services of exceptional quality for children aged 6 weeks to 12 years. The Nursery Room Leader is a qualified childcare professional who is responsible for the day to day running of the room. They perform an important role caring for children, maintaining a high quality, stimulating learning environment, supervising staff andsharing their skills and knowledge with colleagues. The nursery room leader should take a creative and reflective leadership role with the ability to implement new ideas and use a range of strategies to continually improve practice and support the service’smanagement team.Key Responsibilities

  • To contribute to the creation of a safe, welcoming and inclusive environment for all children.
  • To ensure that all St Roch’s policies, procedures and daily routines are adhered to positively and effectively.
  • To be responsible for the welfare of all children in your designated room, organising systems and practices to ensure consistent, high-quality care.
  • To be vigilant and report any concerns immediately and in accordance with the Safeguarding and Child Protection and Whistle Blowing policies.
  • Reflect on practice and routines, tailoring them to meet the individual needs of each child throughout the day.
  • To lead the planning and provision of a stimulating range of age-appropriate activities and ensuring the room is well resourced and creatively set up.
  • To oversee and ensure that all records and observations of children’s learning are kept up to date, are of a high standard and are shared effectively, including children with additional support needs
  • Ensure that the preparation, care and maintenance of the room setting, and equipment are carried out according to policy, procedures and regular risk assessments.
  • To contribute to and oversee an effective key worker system, supporting and monitoring colleagues to fulfil their key worker responsibilities.
  • To contribute to regular staff meetings and planning sessions.
  • To work flexibly as part of a larger team, assisting and supporting colleagues wherever the needs of the school require.
  • To work in partnership with all parents/ carers, building and maintaining relationships that encourage trust, open communication and involvement with the local community.
  • To be professional and a good role model to the children and staff at all times.
  • Liaise with colleagues to provide a smooth transition for all children.
Skills &Qualifications
  • Educated to level 3 or above with a recognised professional qualification in early years education or equivalent Experience of supplying a programme of care and play activities for children from birth to 5 years in a nursery or similar setting.
  • Have proven organisational skills and experience of leading a small team.
  • Have knowledge and understanding of current legislature and best practice documents
  • You will need to be flexible and resourceful, with a strong commitment to delivering first class childcare.
