Job Description

Manufacturing Solution ArchitectA multinational powerhouse in the chemicals industry is looking for a Manufacturing Solution Architect to join their team remotely on an initial 6 month contract - The successful Manufacturing Solution Architect will be required onsite for team meetingsor workshops on occasion.Principal ResponsibilitiesSolution Design: Analyse business requirements, operational processes, and technology landscapes to design effective OT/IT solutions that address complex challenges. Develop architectural blueprints, solution frameworks, and system designs to guide the implementationprocess. Work closely with OT automation engineers in understanding the network deployment requirements for machine packages and communication between the machine packages.

  • Integration Planning: Identify and evaluate integration points between OT and IT systems, including legacy and emerging technologies. Define data flow patterns, system interfaces, and integration protocols to ensure seamless information exchange and interoperability.
  • Technical Expertise: Possess a deep understanding of both OT and IT domains, including industrial control systems (ICS), supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA), network infrastructure, cybersecurity, and emerging technologies such as Internetof Things (IoT).
  • Collaboration and Stakeholder Management: Collaborate with cross-functional teams, business stakeholders, and vendors to gather requirements, understand business processes, and ensure alignment between technology solutions and business objectives. Effectivelycommunicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Solution Implementation: Provide technical guidance and support during the implementation phase, working closely with development teams and project managers to ensure the successful deployment of OT/IT solutions. Conduct testing, troubleshooting, and performancetuning to optimise system functionality and efficiency.
  • Security and Compliance: Incorporate robust security measures and compliance standards into the design and implementation of OT/IT solutions. Work closely with Enterprise Architecture in maturing the enterprise designs for OT/IT including JMs cybersafesecurity principles. Stay updated on industry best practices and emerging trends in OT cybersecurity to mitigate risks and safeguard critical systems and data.
  • Technology Evaluation: Assess new technologies, tools, and platforms relevant to OT and IT landscapes. Conduct research and evaluations to recommend innovative solutions that enhance operational efficiency, productivity, and performance.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Create detailed technical documentation, including system architecture diagrams (Low level designs), configuration guides, and user manuals. Prepare regular reports and presentations for management and stakeholders, highlightingproject progress, key milestones, and potential risks or issues.
Skills / Experience Required
  • Relevant experience in a large multi-national manufacturing organisation.
  • Ability to speak with senior business leaders in their language and gain respect in their teams.
  • Able to work across multiple projects simultaneously and manage workload accordingly.
  • Strong analytical and conceptual skills; ability to create original concepts and theories for a variety of projects.
  • Strong knowledge of industrial control systems, network architecture, cyber security and emerging technologies.
  • Experience as a Solutions Architect, or a similar role, with expertise in both OT and IT domains.
  • Ability to provide the necessary level of architecture depending on the requirements, budget, timelines and roadmap.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders and present technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • Project management skills and the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Familiarity with industry standards and regulations, such as ISA 95, ISA 88 and IEC 62443.
