Job Description

Manufacturing Engineer - RoystonThis role is with a forward-thinking and rapidly growing medical devices company, who are keen to recruit an experienced Manufacturing Engineer to join their manufacturing team and help scale up as they transition from lab to factory at a rapid pace. Therole is a unique opportunity to be a critical part of the rapid commercialisation of a disruptive technology set to bring fast, accessible molecular diagnostics to have a tangible impact on how infectious diseases are managed at the point of care.Manufacturing Engineer role:The role will initially be responsible for the understanding and optimisation of their manufacturing processes, to enable robust manufacture of consumables for development use. Soon after, the role will include development and optimisation of these processesfor a significant volume of units and their transfer to fully automated manufacture.The role may also require extensive periods of international travel during transfer-to-transfer manufacture with 3rd parties.This role also requires several technical skills:

  • Troubleshooting, testing, and investigating automated and semi-automated processes
  • Process development, in particular the application of critical-to-quality principles
  • Application of lean manufacturing principles
Manufacturing Engineer requirements:Essentials:
  • Either a Masters degree in Manufacturing Engineering / a related discipline, or a Bachelors degree in Engineering / a related discipline plus professional experience in a manufacturing role.
  • Process qualification: knowledge of the steps to qualify a process and/or a piece of equipment e.g. IQ, OQ, PQ, DOE, Process Capability.
  • Process specification: Familiarity with equipment or product User Requirements Specifications. Experience of drafting such specifications is highly desirable.
  • Attention to detail: ability to accurately record test data and ability to spot inaccuracies in procedures or in test results.
Desirables:
  • Familiarity with development operating under formal quality systems and practices (GMP, ISO13485 etc.)
  • Hands-on experience with related manufacturing processes, such as heat sealing, ultrasonic welding and leak testing
