Job Description

Opportunity for an engineering manager to join an SME that designs, develops and manufactures cutting-edge scientific products. The company has been in existence for 20 years and now has customers in 50+ countries with offices in the UK, USA and Asia.The role is a 12 month fixed term contract to cover a period of maternity leave.You will be responsible for proving leadership and direction to a small team of mechanical design and software engineers as they move through the development phases of small electro-mechanical products which are supplied into several industries. As the head of engineering, you will report directly to the managing director.As the engineering manager your duties will include:

  • Managing the day to day function of the engineering department
  • Planning and leading product development projects
  • Designing components and assemblies for scientific products using 3D CAD software
  • Training and managing a team of mechanical and software engineers
  • Leading product design reviews and provide feedback to improve the architecture of the system
  • Identifying and managing continuous improvement projects
  • Scoping out user and functional requirements through interaction with in-house science and applications teams
  • Ensuring products meet relevant regulatory requirements such as CE marking
    • To apply for the engineering manager (12 months FTC) role, you will need:
  • Experience in leading the development of electro-mechanical products
  • Experience in managing a small engineering and development team (ideally a mix of mechanical and software staff)
  • Strong project management skills
  • A mechanical engineering background with the ability to use 3D Cad and solve mechanical engineering problems
  • A relevant engineering degree
  • Experience in liaising with and communicating with various departments across a company
