Job Description

Role: Technical Platform Manager (full or part time: at least 60% FTE)Division: Assessment & Qualifications DeliveryLocation: Rotherham or Oxford, UK. Hybrid-workingAbout UK Assessment & QualificationsWe are responsible for the delivery of nearly 4 million examination results per annum, including A-Level, GCSE, BTEC and T-levels for students in UK and International centres. Our in-house systems process every learner from registration to marking and certification,in a highly regulated business. We currently operate a hybrid estate of predominantly bespoke systems, with an ongoing strategic transformation programme to migrate from on-prem to cloud based, cost effective, scalable and resilient services.We also deliver courseware to over 4 million learners and teachers at Primary Schools, Secondary Schools, Colleges, or at home in the UK and abroad through our bespoke Learning Management Systems. These offer engaging experiences that cater for all abilitiesand support learning and preparation for qualifications.About the jobWe are looking for a Platform Development Manager to lead a new, recently launched product platform, providing schools and colleges with resources to support the teaching and learning of our qualifications. This is a complex product involving multiple developmentteams (UK, US and India) and internal and external suppliers for technical and content services.We require someone to own the technical solution for the whole system. You will understand the technical architecture, how all the pieces fit together, the development team structure and work to improve the solution - striving to reduce complexity, improveresilience and adapt to changing needs as the number of customers and products grows. You will work with Architects, Development teams, Product Owners and Project Managers as you understand the current solution and produce a strategy for future direction.About youYou will have previous relevant experience, ideally in multiples roles such as: Platform Manager, Solution Architect, Product Owner and Technical Lead, and be able to demonstrate an interest in education or publishing.You can demonstrate technical leadership, innovative thinking and ownership from previous projects.Key Skills & Experience

  • Prior experience working as Platform Manager / Technical Product Owner / Solution Architect / Technical Lead or another equivalent role
  • Delivery of complex consumer-oriented digital solutions with multiple suppliers
  • Excellent communication, presentation and questioning skills
Desirable Skills & Experience
  • Experience of working in educational, publishing or media organisations;
  • Experience of managing distributed development teams and matrix organisations
  • Certification in Agile methodologies (eg Scrum Master)
The role is aligned to either our Rotherham or Oxford offices. Our Rotherham office is located at Junction 1 of the M18, making it commutable from Sheffield, Leeds, Doncaster, Derby or Nottingham.We have worked from home throughout the pandemic, but have adopted hybrid working now national restrictions are lifted; for this role that means visiting your base office no more than once a week with the possibility of occasional travel to other Pearsonsites, however, adjustments to this due to personal circumstances & preferences are possible.We work a 37.5 hour week, with all our team free to flex their day around our core hours, which are Monday to Friday, 10 to 4 GMT/BST. School runs, etc can be accommodated. Other flexible working patterns can be considered, including part-time working andnon-traditional hours. As we regularly work with global teams, particularly in India and the US, there may be the occasional need to accommodate meetings outside of core hours.For this role there is a requirement to provide occasional out of hours support during business critical periods.We actively encourage our staff to participate in at least 40 hours of training a year, and offer relevant AWS training and certification as part of this role.Your benefits and rewardsHere at Pearson we offer a range of benefits, which include:
