Job Description

Where possible our employees can choose to manage their attendance to the office more flexibly.About UK Assessment & QualificationsWe are responsible for the delivery of nearly 4 million examination results per annum, including A-Level, GCSE, BTEC and T-levels for students in UK and International centres. Our in-house systems process every learner from registration to marking and certification,in a highly regulated business. We currently operate a hybrid estate of predominantly bespoke systems, with an ongoing strategic transformation programme to migrate from on-prem to cloud based, cost effective, scalable and resilient services.About the JobThis position will be responsible for designing, implementing and maintaining an operating model to enable the migration of existing technology solutions and deployment of new services to a cloud computing platform. This includes but is not limited to automatingand streamlining processes, implementing and maintaining deployment tools and monitoring operational availability.The position will also help troubleshoot and resolve issues in development, test and production environments, act as an escalation point for application support and work collaboratively with software engineering teams to deploy and operate our systems.About YouWed expect that youll have relevant experience with a proven track record in design, delivery and deployment of cloud-based, distributed, containerised and serverless applications, alongside Agile development and BAU teams within a globally distributedteam. Youll be proactive and innovative, and wed also prefer you to have experience of mentoring less experienced team members.Key Skills & Experience

  • Experience with AWS infrastructure, management, and automation.
  • Experience with software deployment and configuration automation.
  • Experience in a modern development environment, with automation pipelines and Infrastructure as a Code.
  • Understanding of Cyber security concepts, including threats, vulnerabilities, security operations, encryption, boundary defence, authentication, and risk management.
  • Successfully contributed to continuous process improvement initiatives and automation activities.
  • Ability to optimize code and automate routine tasks.
  • AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner.
  • Understanding of Networking & common protocols.
  • Understanding of Kanban, ITIL, and Service Management fundamentals.
  • Familiarity with Atlassian toolset (Confluence, Jira).
  • Understanding of automation toolsets such as Jenkins, Git, Ansible, Terraform etc.
  • AWS EC2, ECS & Auto Scaling.
  • AWS NetworkingVPC, NAT, VPN, Route 53, Direct Connect, Load Balancers, VPC peering.
  • AWS Security - Inspector, Shield, WAF, KMS.
  • AWS Trusted Advisor.
  • AWS Billing and cost management.
  • AWS System Manager, CloudTrail, CloudWatch.
  • AWS EBS, S3 & FSx.
Desirable Skills & Experience
  • Microsoft PowerShell.
  • HashiCorp Terraform.
  • Working in a High-Pressure Environment.
  • CI/CD components and process design.
  • Working with or contributing directly to Open-Source projects.
  • Delivering web-scale products to a global market at high release velocity.
The role is aligned to either our Rotherham office, located at Junction 1 of the M18, making it commutable from Sheffield, Leeds, Doncaster, Derby or Nottingham.All our roles are hybrid working; for this role that means visiting your base office no more than once a week with the possibility of occasional travel to other Pearson sites, however, adjustments to this due to personal circumstances & preferences are possible.We work a 37.5 hour week, with all our team free to flex their day around our core hours, which are Monday to Friday, 10 to 4 GMT/BST. School runs, etc can be accommodated. Other flexible working patterns can be considered, including part-time working andnon-traditional hours. As we regularly work with global teams, particularly in India and the US, there may be the occasional need to accommodate meetings outside of core hours.For this role there may be future expectation to provide out of hours support during business critical periods.We actively encourage our staff to participate in at least 40 hours of training a year, and offer relevant AWS training and certification as part of this role.Your benefits and rewardsHere at Pearson we offer a range of benefits, which include:
