Applicants must have experience of working within an NHS laboratory.We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Specialist Biomedical Scientist or an Entry Level state registered BMS who is professional, reliable, innovative and flexible to join our friendly and hardworking team. This department offers training and development opportunities for the right candidates to further develop their skills and ambition.Haematology & Blood Trans at The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust is part of the Blood Sciences department of Barnsley and Rotherham Integrated Laboratory Services. This modern department offers a wide range of diagnostic testing facilities for Rotherham and Barnsley Hospitals as well as local GP practices. The department is accreditation to ISO15189 standards and is an IBMS accredited training laboratory.The Department currently processes over 20,000 sample per year in Transfusion and over 200,000 in Haematology. The Blood Transfusion department is well equipped and uses the Bio-Rad IH-1000 automated platforms alongside the Banjo ID reader for manual testing. The department uses electronic issue of red cells to approximately 85% of all requests for provision of blood and provides a wide range of therapeutic blood products and components. Equipment in the Haematology Department includes Advia 2120 for full blood count testing, Stago Evolution for coagulation including Lupus testing which will shortly be replaced with Stago StarMax analysers, the Tosoh G11 for Haemoglobinopathy testing and BD FACS Canto II for immuophenotyping (CD4/8).All the analysers are linked to the Clinisys Winpath Enterprise LIMS system.Ideally the successful candidate will be state registered with Health and Care Professions Council, will have post registration experience in an NHS Haematology and/or Blood Transfusion laboratory and hold the IBMS Specialist Portfolio in Haematology & Hospital Transfusion Practice or equivalent (Band 6). However, applications from Entry Level Biomedical Scientists and students nearing the completion of their degree who have attained the IBMS certificate of competence will also be considered (Band 5).Once trained you will be committed to supporting the 24/7 out of hours service.The post is based at Rotherham Hospital but the successful candidate may also benefit from working at our partner laboratory in Barnsley.Rotherham Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is situated close to the Derbyshire Peak District and is within easy reach of the major cities of Sheffield and Leeds. The Transformation Programme may include the consolidation of some services.
