Job Description

Actuarial Analyst - £24k-£28k depending on experience - Bonus + Pension + Study support + flexible workingMy client is a leading, specialist insurance firm. They are renowned for the care of their staff as well as the work they do for their clients. As a result of a recent drive to enhance internal actuarial capabilities, they are looking to add an Actuarial Analyst to their team.THE ROLEIn this highly visible role within a leading insurance broker, the Actuarial Analyst will employ your reserving expertise to contribute to the achievement of business objectives, liaising with senior management and capacity providers.The Actuarial Analyst will have significant involvement with reserving, business planning, portfolio analysis, and collaboration with pricing actuaries. The department strives for continuous improvement. We are supported by a dedicated combined in-house development team for database and system maintenance and development. This enables the reserving function to spend less time processing data and more time on analytical thinking. The Actuarial team maintains close working relationships with the Underwriting, Claims, Reinsurance and Finance in order to gain a thorough understanding of the classes of business and their drivers of profitability. The Actuarial Analyst would be assisting the Head of Actuarial in providing insight into the Car, Commercial Vehicle and Bike portfolios of business and would work closely with other departments to develop the appropriate knowledge.DUTIES AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES - Actuarial AnalystTechnical Analysis

  • Carry out and peer review elements of the quarterly reserve reviews, as well as additional claims related analysis
  • Produce analysis of Claims performance, identifying trends and features, which includes the interpretation and communication of suitable recommendations to Senior Management
  • Enhance the team’s capabilities by undertaking automation projects and adoption of new software, tools and techniques in analytics.
  • Working on ad hoc pricing projects with the overall aim of having a direct impact on profitability
  • Leading the department’s thinking in the pro-active use of available data to support the Underwriting and Claims functions in making effective and informed business decisions.
  • Assist in the development, maintenance and interpretation of relevant MI in relation to the company’s underwriting performance and pricing strength.
  • Communicate analysis and make recommendations to Underwriters, Claims Managers and Senior Management
  • Reporting:
  • Support the maintenance of monthly Management Information packs for key measures and factors
  • Provide regular reports and analysis in a timely manner
  • Gather market information when required and collate for circulation within the business.
  • General:
  • Undertake other duties and responsibilities that are reasonably required by your line manager, working flexibly across other areas of the business
  • To ensure that GDPR, SII, PRA, FCA & TCF and other regulatory requirements are met
  • CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS - Actuarial AnalystEssential
  • Claims Reserving software
  • Strong MS Office skills (in particular Excel)
  • Experience of using database and programming packages (SQL, R, Python etc)
  • Knowledge of current Motor Insurance perils and rating factors
