Job Description

Job Title: Shift TechnicianDepartment: MaintenanceLocation: CliffeReports To: Maintenance ManagerSummary:As a Shift Technician in the Maintenance Department, you will be responsible for the repair and maintenance of all fixed and mobile plant equipment, including office and building maintenance. This role requires cooperation with various internal teams andexternal contractors and suppliers, focusing on continuous improvement in safety, performance, and cost-effectiveness.Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage maintenance of fixed plant and facilities.
  • Implement preventative maintenance and SHE (Safety, Health, and Environment) policies.
  • Assist in operating and maintaining plant to achieve high performance and quality standards.
  • Manage engineering stores inventory, ensuring value for money.
  • Contribute to cost reduction and process improvement initiatives.
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues and supervisors.
  • Maintain a clean, safe work area.
Essential Qualifications and Skills:
  • Time-served mechanical/electrical apprenticeship (City & Guilds minimum).
  • Experience in maintenance of fixed and mobile plant.
  • Clear and logical problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent timekeeping and attendance.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Commitment to training and self-development.
  • Strong awareness of manufacturing costs and SHE.
Desirable Qualifications and Skills:
  • Experience with PLCs, block making plant, and in a PPM environment.
  • HNC or ONC qualification.
  • Strong manufacturing experience.
  • Good team-building skills.
General Education:
  • English and Maths to a good secondary level (CSE, GCE, GCSE, or equivalent).
  • Desirable: HNC in engineering.
Specific Training/Professional Qualifications:
  • Engineering apprenticeship.
  • Desirable: 18th Edition, PLC programming, CAD.
Experience:
  • Mechanical and/or electrical maintenance of industrial plant.
  • Desirable: Experience in block plant maintenance, fabrication.
Other Requirements:
  • Enthusiastic, positive team member.
  • Strong systems and procedure orientation.
  • Desirable: Good IT skills, attention to detail.
