Job Description

Youth support worker

  • Role location: Middleton
  • Starting date: ASAP
  • Salary: £1350-£1600 PM depending on experience
A youth worker works with the youth to facilitate their social, personal, and physical development through informal education. The candidate will assist the young people, understand values and ideas, and build their confidence and life skills.Empowering Learning are working with a special needs school in Middleton. They are seeking a youth support worker to join them to start immediately. The role is extremely challenging yet fulfilling as everyday will be different. The candidate will help thechildren to explore and understand their ideas, values, and beliefs so that they can make a successful transition to adulthood.All staff share a vision to offer a safe environment for the children, to help them build upon their psychosocial skills. The school adhere to their vision to ensure the children develop these essential skills and attributes to become the best version ofthemselves. Therefore, the ideal candidate will be an outstanding communicator and patient to motivate those who are disconnected with education.Key Skills
  • Assess the needs of young people to correctly plan and deliver programmes related to areas such as health, fitness, smoking, drugs, gangs, violence, relationships, and bullying
  • Set up and run arts-based activities, community/environmental projects, residential activities, outdoor education, and sporting activities
  • Develop a relationship with young people based on respect and trust, ensuring they have a safe place to develop their identity and place in society
  • Establish boundaries and challenge inappropriate behaviour
  • Mentor, coach, and support individuals, encouraging greater social inclusion
  • Set targets for progression and regularly monitor and review the quality of the local youth work provision
  • Attend regular training and development opportunities to maintain an up-to-date knowledge of safeguarding, health and safety, and local policy developments
