Job Description

In every kind of building - from home to work, from the local supermarket to the local hospital - we help to create partitions, provide comfort, protect against fire and insulate against sound.We have an exciting opportunity for a Shift Manager to join our passionate and knowledgeable team at our Brightling Mine (Robertsbridge). This is an underground mine, that produces both gypsum and cement rock for use by British Gypsum plants and the general cement industry. In this varied role, you will coordinate shift operations so production and safety are conducted in an optimal manner, whilst developing and improving on operational systems.What youll be doing as a Mine Shift Manager:

  • Accident investigation to Root Cause and implementation of appropriate containment and/or countermeasures
  • Deployment of personnel and resources to meet the requirements of the Mine Safety Management system and Safety Plan
  • Compliance with mine environmental controls and monitoringprogramme to measure andminimise the impact on the Health of Mine Personnel
  • Air Quanitity and quality
  • Exhaust Gases
  • DPM
  • Radon
  • Dust
  • Noise
  • Lead by example and ensure high operational standards in accordance with current mine legislation, company policy and managers rules through supervision, coaching, SUSA and workplace/task auditing
  • Ensure the induction, supervision and control of all contractors at the mine in accordance with Managers Rules and company policy
  • Ensure Extraction (panel width, pillar dimensions, roadway width and height, stop line compliance) complies in accordance with Mine Design.
  • Supervise and control the installation of outbye services and rock handling equipment. Installation/move ups to efficiently support production operations
  • Supervise and control the installation of District dewatering and ventilation schemes in accordance with Mine development plan
  • Supervise and assist in the planning and preparation of mine shutdowns and machine maintenance to minimise overall downtime
  • Control underground and surface production activities to minimise impact and potential disturbance to neighbours
  • Ensure energy consumption is minimised through optimised running (pumps and ventilation)
  • Liaise with Surface Plant to ensure correct quality and quantity of rock is available for factory use or for external despatch
  • Coach and develop production teams in their capability to deliver and sustain improvements through AM activity

  • Degree in Mining Engineering or sufficient experience in a mining environment
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment
