Software Automation Test Engineer

Job Description

My client is seeking an experienced Automation Test Engineer to support the greenfield development of an enterprise resource planning (ERP) solution, primarily implemented as microservices using Amazon Web Services (AWS) serverless technologies.You will support guiding their approach to test automation, supporting the selection of appropriate tools which integrate with their CI/CD pipelines and planning for their rollout. You will have responsibility for implementing these tools and developing/maintainingautomated tests.The initial focus of automated testing will be the application’s responsive web UI (across device types) and back-end APIs. As the product matures, you will also contribute to performance testing. There may also be an opportunity to explore automated testingof Android and iOS mobile applications.You will work closely with the QA Lead to ensure that their automated testing approach is joined with their manual testing, and to build up extensive automated coverage across their product’s capabilities. In addition, you will collaborate with DevOps colleaguesto integrate automated testing into their pipelines.As you will be expected to work with a team based in the UK and India, you will have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal and be able to demonstrate a track record of working in product development projects.Key ResponsibilitiesYour day-to-day responsibilities will include:

• Implementing an automated test framework which helps them deliver on their Test Strategy.
• Building and sustaining a suite of automated tests to deliver extensive coverage across their product feature set, working closely with the QA Lead and testers.
• Becoming a subject matter expert on automated testing to guide and support colleagues.
• Supporting the QA Lead in ensuring adherence to the Test Strategy and identifying areas for improvement.
• Supporting the DevOps team in integrated automated testing into CI/CD pipelines.
• Using industry testing techniques and methodologies, best practices, and quality assurance activities, to assure the delivery of robust, performant systems that meet quality expectations.

Key Attributes & SkillsEssential

• +2 years experience working as an Automation Test Engineer on complex software systems.
• Experience of implementing test automation tools for:
• Web UI (such as Selenium or Appium)
• Back-end APIs (such as Postman or SoapUI)
• Performance testing (such as Apache JMeter)
• Experience applying test automation practices in an Agile environment, utilising continuous delivery and continuous testing models to assure the delivery of robust, performant systems that meet quality expectations.
• Good understanding of test artefacts, well-formed, reusable test scripts, test execution, test metrics, and test review processes.
• Excellent verbal and written communications in English.

Desirable

• Experience working with UK and offshore teams.
• Practical experience of implementing test automation tools for mobile applications.
• Practical experience using a Test Management system (such as QMetry, Zephyr or Helix ALM) to plan, coordinate, and evidence test execution.
• Experience using Jira and Confluence for issue management and collaboration.
• A degree in a technical discipline.
