About the role At Surrey Fire and Rescue Service we are putting prevention at the heart of our Service and we are looking for talented people who are ready for the challenge of engaging with our community, helping people to keep themselves safe and ensuring that the most vulnerable are supported where we can.Are you able to engage with young people and empower them to make positive life choicesAre you confident, approachable and a great communicatorWould you like to use these skills in a fire service settingWe are looking for someone who can support our successful Youth Engagement Scheme (YES) and help to drive it forward with the Youth Engagement Manager as well as shaping and delivering other youth engagement activities like Firefighter for a Day (FFFAD), Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme (D of E) and uniformed organisation badge schemes.YES is a week-long practical intervention that uses firefighting skills and activities in a restorative environment to engage young people aged between 14 and 17 years and help them to start making more positive life choices.You will be involved in receiving and processing referrals. You will use your pro social skills during course delivery as a YES instructor, as well as when you are attending follow-up days and gathering feedback about our graduates.Firefighter for a Day, Duke of Edinburgh Award and uniformed organisation badge schemes are currently delivered by operational personnel on an ad hoc basis. We are looking for someone who will work with the Youth Engagement Manager to liaise with operational personnel and external agencies to review and relaunch these initiatives.You will report to the Youth Engagement Manager and be part of the Children and Young People Team that will include Education Officers who will also help to deliver youth engagement activities including as YES instructors.Nominally based at Surrey Fire and Rescue Service Headquarters in Reigate, this position will require you to work in a variety of locations including fire stations and schools.If you think you could be the person we are looking for, we would love to hear from you.For more information please find attached to the bottom of this advert a full job description and person specification.
