Job Description

Underwriter (Credit Risk)Shift Pattern: Mon-Fri Hours between: 0800am- 7.00pm + (1:4 Sat -0900am- 6.00pm) - (time off in lieu for Sats worked)Location: Redhill£26k + Ex BensUnderwrite Finance applications within personal authority, recommend a course of action for those who exceed this mandate in line with the Retail Policy Document.

  • Monitor the Underwriting Queue in order that proposals are processed in time and date order
  • Monitor the Blocked Queues and take the relevant action in order that any blocked deal may enter the Underwriting queue.
  • Underwrite credit transactions within personal lending authority.
  • Recommend a course of action on all cases which fall outside personal lending authority.
  • Advise relevant bodies
  • Enter into the negotiation process as and when necessary with the relevant interested parties
  • Comply with the Data Protection Act and the Money Laundering Policy.
  • To be aware of the Fraud Guidelines and to make referrals to the Fraud Unit as and when appropriate.
  • Monitor changes and shifting trends within the area, being aware of the current activities of competitors and report back to the Underwriting Controller.
  • Identify any inadequacies in the systems/procedures and make recommendations to the Underwriting Controller, aimed at improving performance and service.
  • Complete individual daily / monthly productivity returns.
  • To be responsible for personal development with the support of the Underwriting Controller.
  • Undertake ad-hoc duties as and when required by the Underwriting Controller or the Underwriting Manager.
  • Monitor individual default % and liaise with the Fraud Controller or collections team when required.
Essential Applicant Skills
  • Educated to GCSE level (English & Maths)
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Minimum 12 months underwriting experience
  • Positive, motivated with a calm manner and the ability to achieve targets
  • Team Player who takes pride in their work
