Job Description

The starting salary for this role is £45,734 per annum, working 36 hours per week.Do you want to play a pivotal role in our transformation of the Fostering Service in SurreyWe have created a number of new roles to enhance our support to children and foster carers and to help us realise our vision of more Surrey Homes for Surrey Children.We have a great new opportunity for a Fostering Independent Reviewing Officer to develop our practice in respect of foster carers reviews of approval. You will act as an arms-length practitioner, ensuring high quality foster carers reviews take place inaccordance with regulations and best practice. Effective reviews contribute to the ongoing support and development of fostering households as well as ensuring the needs of individual children, and for sufficient suitable foster homes, are met. You will ensurethat all meetings hold an appropriate focus on childrens welfare and that annual reviews enable children to participate in a variety of ways.This role is central to the Fostering Services quality assurance function and contributes to ensuring sound and effective practice across the fostering service. You may contribute to case auditing and service reviews as required and you may also lead specificpractice enquiries such as Standards of Care investigations. Reviews will usually take place in fostering homes and therefore an ability to travel within Surrey, and occasionally nationally, is essential.This is a unique opportunity to be involved in developing a new role, and in return you will be part of a strong and experienced management team, with access to a range of learning and development activities.To apply and be considered for this position your application will clearly evidence:

  • A professional social work qualification and registration with Social Work England with demonstrable good working knowledge of fostering and childcare practice, relevant legislation, regulations and guidance
  • Recent experience of working in a fostering service which enables you to show a comprehensive knowledge of the roles and responsibilities of all those involved with children living in foster care
  • Effective communication and a skill in relationship building with an ability to chair meetings and conduct reviews in a way that includes children, foster carers and other professionals. This will include skillin constructively giving feedback to raisestandards of care and to challenge practice in a way that shows a relentless focus on childrens needs
  • How you give verbal and written feedback in a way that is understood by children and adults, including writing detailed reports, making recommendations, and assessing risk
  • Your ability to be organised, managing time effectively, prioritising competing and complex demands
  • A willingness and ability to travel throughout Surrey
