Job Description

Job TitleVertical Farming TechnicianA new position has opened up for a highly enthusiastic individual to join the team at Fresh Heights in Redditch to assist in all day-to-day activities within the in-house testing and development vertical farming system. Working with the growing team to test, validate and develop plant recipes and internal processes for use in commercial vertical farming systems.Core responsibilities

  • Operate the pilot scale vertical farming system with all associated physical and clerical activities to ensure the highest levels of performance.
  • Support the testing and development of different crop varieties both in house and externally.
  • Ensure adherence to the Food Safety and Health & Safety standards of the organisation.
    • Essential FunctionsGrowing Responsibilities:• Potting, sowing, harvesting and packing of fresh produce• Continuous monitoring, pest management and accurate record keeping• Mixing irrigation solutions and monitoring growing all parameters• Maintain the health of plants and the wider facilities through regular cleaning & sterilising• General maintenance of all equipment• Following all standard operating procedures after the produce is ready, you may be involved in the delivery to local customersTesting responsibilities:• Involvement with the testing of different crop varieties both internally and externally• Work to a pre-agreed testing schedule to allow us to identify key variables affecting growth and areas for improvementDuring busy periods you may be asked to assist in other areas of the business including the brewery which may include brewing setup, cleaning, packaging etc as well as supporting events outside of core hours.Any other reasonably expected duties.Core competencies – (level two) – (linked to the internal performance review process)• Analysis & decision making• Drive for results• Innovation & change• Customer FocusMandatory Skills / Experience Required• Ability to concentrate and perform tasks accurately to a high standard• Good understanding of crop husbandry and hydroponic growing methodologies• Ability to follow instructions and work hard• Computer literate and able to work with Microsoft suite programs and data analysis software• Ability to work independently, as well as with others• Ability to multi-task• Hands-on practical and technical skills• Understanding of Food Safety and Health & SafetyDesired Skills / Experience• Ideally educated to graduate level/have completed an apprenticeship in a related business area• Useful subjects include sciences, horticulture, health and food technologies• Any additional qualifications that demonstrate impeccable hygiene, health and safety knowledge and practical horticultural skills are advantageous• Interest in the brewing processJob Salary Band 4 (£19,200-£28,800)Start Date As soon as possibleLocation Redditch, WorcestershireAdditional Benefits: Pension contributions, Brewery discount, Mobile phone contribution.
