Job Description

Diverse British Manufacturing organisation, exporting goods to over 50 countries worldwide, seeks an experienced Tool Grinder to work within an established team. As Tool Grinder, your role would be to perform precision smoothing, sharpening, polishing, or grinding/regrinding of various Progression Press Tooling, using conventional machinery.The successful candidate for the role of Tool Grinder would be a time served Tool Grinder with a strong manufacturing and press toolingbackground, with extensive experience in tool grinding and a time served apprenticeship.The position of Tool Grinder is offered as a permanent contract with competitive salary (dependent upon experience), flexible working hours between 36 and 40 hours per week, dependent upon work requirements, modern, clean working environmentand immediate start available.Tool Grinder duties would include:

  • Dress grinding wheels, according to specifications
  • Monitor machine operations to determine whether adjustments are necessary: stop machines when problems occur
  • Inspect and measure work pieces to ensure that surfaces and dimensions meet specifications
  • Identify defective pieces
  • Set up and operate grinding or polishing machines to grind metal work pieces such as dies, parts, and tools
  • File or finish surfaces of work pieces, using prescribed hand tools
  • Select and mount grinding wheels on machines, according to specifications, using hand tools and applying knowledge of abrasives and grinding procedures
  • Perform basic maintenance, such as cleaning and lubricating machine parts
  • Remove and replace worn or broken machine parts, using hand tools
  • Compute numbers, widths, and angles of cutting tools, micrometers, scales, and gauges, and adjusts tools to produce specified cuts
Knowledge/skills required by successful candidate for the role of Tool Grinder:
  • Time served apprenticeship
  • Press tooling and manufacturing background
  • Knowledge of machines and tools, including designs, uses, repair, and maintenance
  • Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs and other techniques to maximize the effective manufacture of distribution of goods
  • Ability to conduct tests and inspections of products, services or processes to evaluate quality or performance
  • High attention to detail
  • Logical thinking and problem solving ability
  • Excellent vision
  • Ability to concentrate
  • Must be motivated and able to work on own initiative
