Job Description

About the role:This role is a 5 months maternity cover, involving understanding growth and planning the future for wastewater systems (network and process) in the Thames Valley. The system planning team identify risk, carry our systems reviews, scope up investigations and integrates those outputs into a System Plan that feeds current and future expenditure. We are focussed on ensuring that our system can perform as it needs to, considering population growth, climate change and asset deterioration. We also look to improve the performance of our systems by reducing flooding and pollution as well as improving the rivers that we discharge into.The role includes stakeholder liaison and providing updates on customer issues. We carefully consider the impact of our activities on the communities and environment that we operate in.Working in a collaborative team, key areas of accountability will include: As this role is maternity cover, it focuses on a few key areas of accountability undertaken by the System Planning Team to enable a sounds basis for the System Planner role. In this role you will:

  • Be responsible for undertaking desktop growth assessments and compiling responses to back to Planning Authorities where we are consulted, within agreed timescales.
  • Be responsible for undertaking desktop growth/flow assessments and compiling responses to back to our internal Developer Services and Trade Effluent team where we are consulted within agreed timescales.
  • Support Systems Planners in understanding the current and future growth demands on their systems to help shape regional-based System Plans that meet customer, stakeholder, regulator and strategy requirements.
  • Represent your team at regular operational risk review meetings and regularly engage with the teams that manage the sewer network, pumping stations and process sites. From these meetings, you will be expected to formulate concise investment requirements and promote them through the corporate Risk Framework.
  • Provide concise technical information in a style and language our customers and stakeholders can understand.
  • Travel around Thames Water’s catchment area and attending stakeholder meetings.
  • To be successful, you will have the following skills and experience:
  • Excellent co-ordination skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks at one time.
  • Professional qualification (or equivalent) in either asset management, engineering, scientific or an environmental-based subject.
  • Previous experience and knowledge of wastewater network and wastewater process; the UK water industry and; utility intensive industries are desirable.
  • Strong knowledge of asset management techniques and the regulatory landscape in which we operate.
  • Experience in ArcGIS is desirable.
  • Good influencing and negotiation skills are desirable.
