Job Description

Howdens Joinery have an exciting opportunity for a commercially led Head of Property to join our property team. Reporting to the Group Property Director, this is a new leadership position that will manage our Supply Property Portfolio, which currently comprisesover 5.3Msq ft of space with a rent roll of approximately £16M, in addition to several freehold assets. As a FTSE 100 business which is undergoing an exciting period of transformation and growth, this role offers you an excellent opportunity to take controlof large-scale property projects with multiple internal and external stakeholders in a fast-paced commercial environment.In this Head of Property role, working closely with the Supply team, you will focus on the development and implementation of the property strategy for our Supply estate comprising the warehouse, office and manufacturing facilities occupied and operated bythe business. You will acquire new facilities to support our business growth and development and manage the existing Supply property estate.In this role, you will need to possess a strong intellect and sound judgement, with the ability to work in a business that operates at real pace.We are flexible on the location of this role, and it could be based in any of our office sites. There willalso be some travel involved to other key sites throughout the UK.What you will be doing:

  • Working with your stakeholders to develop a Property and ESG Property Strategy that meets business objectives and develop effective action plans for implementation.
  • Leading and developing the supply property team to deliver a high calibre service.
  • Taking responsibility for developing and managing the existing Supply property assets.
  • Sourcing and securing new Supply properties on optimal commercial terms and negotiating terms for any property optimisation, rationalisation, or relocation.
  • Providing efficient and effective communication of all property requirements and activities.
  • Developing and managing external relationships and suppliers, ensuring the business benefits from best value, and growing the reputation of the business in the property market.
What experience we need you to have:
  • Extensive Property leadership experience within the large shed warehouse market including strategic planning, negotiation, and site delivery.
  • Experience of strong stakeholder management and communication skills in fast-paced commercial organisation and ability to communicate at all levels at an organisation
  • Real Estate management degree or similar property related discipline
  • Proven experience in successful delivery of complex, multi-dimensional property projects and managing multi-site assets, including lease events and property budgets
  • Significant knowledge of Landlord and Tenant law, Town and Country Planning law and all other relevant property-related legislation
  • Forward thinking, with strong strategic, communication, presentation, and interpersonal experience.
  • Strong analytical, strategic planning and organisational skills with proven attention to detail
  • Ability to successfully negotiate with and influence other property professionals, property owners, agents, and principals
  • A high level of organisational skills, the ability to deal with complex issues.
  • Professional property accreditation such as MRICS or equivalent.
