Job Description

Technical Author - Our Offices just outside PULBOROUGH RH20PermanentSalary £35-45k40 hours per weekAn exciting, challenging, and unique opportunity has arisen for an extremely motivated and logical individual with the skills and knowledge of "End User" Technical Publication manual generation. This is for a technically complex portfolio of products relatedto the semi-conductor equipment manufacturing industry. This will also include the creation of engineering service bulletins, various risk assessments, sales literature etc.In addition to the above, there is the opportunity to re-structure the document repository, and be the primary subject matter expert and owner of this department, implementing the rigor of version control within the document portfolio.Thermco Systems Ltd, is an established, multinational semi-conductor manufacturing business based in Ashington, West Sussex. The role offered can be "relatively" home based but will require coming to site to gather information unique to the project. Thefrequency of this will be governed on a project-by-project basis.This is a vital role in helping deliver its technical documentation commitments. A working knowledge of the authoring process in an engineering environment is essential.What were looking for

  • Experience in technical writing/authoring of "End user" documentation is essential across multiple deliveries.
  • Maintenance manuals
  • Operations manuals
  • Installation manuals
  • Service / Safety Bulletins etc.
  • Experience in photographing products, capturing screen shots etc.
  • You will need to be familiar in the use of Adobe-based authoring tools, environment and the associated reports, quality reviews and eventual delivery to the highest quality, on time and on cost.
  • You need to be able to work with a variety of different types of people and will maintain a willing, helpful attitude and a calm professional manner, even when things are changed at the last minute.
  • Provide technical expertise in ensuring design teams have a clear understanding of the publication development, production, and upkeep process.
  • Experience and a working knowledge of the end-to-end product delivery: engineering, manufacturing & service environments.
  • You need to be able to work with a variety of different types of people and will maintain a willing, helpful attitude and a calm professional manner, even when things are changed at the last minute.
  • Liaise with product suppliers in support of technical publication technologies whilst maintaining personal and technical reports, progress reporting, records etc. of all technical publication activities to a high standard.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for customer and industrial partners interaction, a strong resilience, and a good communicator.
  • Key responsibilities
  • As a Technical Author, youll assess the audience and the nature of the documentation, and will need to:
  • Attend planning and briefing meetings.
  • Collaborate with developers and managers to clarify any technical issues.
  • Interview experts and sales and marketing specialists.
  • Adapt/modify existing documents to fit, or create original bespoke documentation.
  • Organise information according to your users needs.
  • Write and edit text.
  • Commission, coordinate or prepare illustrations.
  • Use a variety of software applications to present the information.
  • Index and catalogue material, written or graphic.
  • Working on and managing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Creating work schedules.
  • Lead documentation reviews / sign off
  • Abilities
  • Good command of grammar and vocabulary.
  • Ability to express instructions clearly and briefly in simple language.
  • Concern for verbal consistency and an appreciation of tone and style.
  • Good documentation skills and the ability to produce visually attractive instructions.
  • Interpersonal and communication skills to effectively gather information.
  • Ability to grasp and structure large amounts of information and anticipate the readers knowledge gaps.
  • Good attention to detail and editorial judgement.
  • The ability to work to tight schedules.
  • Excellent planning and organisational skills.
  • Good analytical and questioning skills to get information from experts.
  • The ability to work successfully as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Desirable criteria
  • BEng or similar engineering qualification either mechanical, electromechanical
